- How to work in groups of 3s and 4s using triangles and squares with a focus on passing and receiving.

Activity 1 - 3v1 keep-away
The players will play 3v1 keep away. 3 players on a cone, when one player passes, the free players moves to the open cone to be an option.
Then, take away the visual aid of the cones. This keep-away version will be different than normal as they are allowed to move anywhere within the soccer field space but they must remain integral to the movements they learnt in the square.
The defender will be holding a pinnie in their hand to represent that they are the defender. The attacking teams gets 1 point everytime they make 3 successful passes. The defender gets 1 point everytime they steal.
Rep 1 - 2 mins - (within the diamond) Assess to see if any changes need to be made to make the exercise successful.
Rep 2 - 2 mins - (Within the diamond) Go over the receiving technique using the players to demonstrate the example. When the game is in motion, coach within the game to those players who need it.
Rep 3 - 2 mins - (Within the diamond) Go over the passing technique using the players to demonstrate the example. When the game is in motion, coach within the game to those players who need it.
Rep 4 - 2 mins - (Allow the players to now move away from their diamondGive the players a demostration on where they could move to if their team mate has the ball.
The focus of this exercise is to establish sound passing and receiving technique whilst the players are within a game-like activity.
Technical Coaching Points
Passing - (Standing foot next to the ball; ankle is locked out; passing leg goes back and hits the NOSE or the MOUTH (Depends on what type of pass) of the ball and follows through straight to the player they are passing to; use laces with toe down OR inside of the foot to pass)
Receiving - (Eyes on the ball; looking to control the centre of the ball; foot will be hovering off the ground just enough to be inline with the NOSE of the soccer ball; foot will be soft like a pillow; depending upon the game will depend upon how they receive the ball)

Activity 2 - Working in groups of 3s/4s
In their groups of 3 or 4 (depending upon how many players there are), the players will move from square to square in their groups getting used to the different passing sizes that they can be using. Everytime they control the ball in the square they receive a point. At the end of each rep, whichever group gets the most points win that round.
The focus throughout all 4 reps is on the individual player's technical ability with passing and receiving.
Rep 1 - 1.5 mins - Free Play (HOW many diamonds can you go to in 1.5 mins)
Rep 2 - 1.5 mins - (HOW can you go around the diamond of diamonds in the fastest way possible? - If you see players who are struggling with passing over a large distance, question them on how they could get the ball closer (Dribble, harder pass, etc?)) See how many times they can go around all of the cones?
Rep 3 - 1.5 mins - Give the players a combination of colours (Red, yellow, white, blue) this is the order they must go around the cones in (Q: how many times can you go around those colours in that order in 90 seconds)
Rep 4 - 1.5 mins - (Different order of coloured diamonds)
Technical Coaching Points

Activity 3 - Working in groups of 3s with Bandits
Activity 3 now moves onto incorporating bandits. If the bandit wins the ball, their objective is to try and dribble the ball to the big goal and score. If they do, the game restarts from outside of the goal with the non-bandits.
If there are 3 groups of 3 players in each group. Try 2 bandits and see how the players cope. If it needs to be made easier, drop it down to 1 bandit, if it needs to become more challenging, try 3 bandits - the success of the players will dictate how the game will follow on.
1 point for each square for attackers and 1 point each square for the bandits. Each round is all about keeping the amount of times the bandit steals the ball from them to a minimum. If in round 1 the bandit steals the ball 4 times. That groups challenge for the next round is to keep it to 3 times. The same applies for all groups in each rep.
Rep 1 - 1.5 mins (The bandit cannot enter the squares - They can only steal the ball outside the squares).
Rep 2 - 1.5 mins - Focus on the passing and receiving technique of all the players (The bandit can now enter the squares and can steal the ball anywhere) - Change bandits each rep
Rep 3 - 1.5 mins - Focus on the passing and receiving technique of all the players (The bandit can now enter the squares - They can steal the ball anywhere) - Change bandits each rep. Watch the game, challenge the players at the end of each rep depending upon what they are doing.
Rep 4 - 1.5 mins - Focus on the passing and receiving technique of all the players (The bandit can now enter the squares - They can steal the ball anywhere) - Change bandits each rep

7v7 Game
Both teams will play in a 1-2-3-1 formation. Rotate substitutions when necassary. Rotate GKs when necassary.
Technical Focus - HOW the players are passing and receiving the ball.
Game Focus - (1) Incoporating the ideas planted during the 3 activities before the game. HOW can the players work in groups of 3s/4s. This can be established by asking player's where they can be when their team mate has the ball (2nd player), and then by asking other player's where could they be to support the 2nd player if they received the ball (3rd player).
Goalkeeper Focus - Encourage the goalkeeper to be an outfield player 1st and a goalkeeper 2nd. Let's establish early to our goalkeepers to be soccer players who are a part of the game, even when they are playing as goalkeepers.
Developmental stages of the game:
1) Same as 4v4 Game-Day rules. If the Green team has a Goal Kick or a throw-in in their own half, ask the opposing team to back up to their own half and into their formation.
2) IF, the Green team are being extremely successful, allow the blue team to have 1 Forward player to be on the opposing team's half. (This is now to where we can teach them the rules regarding the blue line).
3) IF, the Green team are still being extremely successful, allow the blue team to have 1 Forward and 1 Midfielder in the opposing team's half.
- These will get slowly increased depending upon how the games are flowing (1 defender, 2 defenders, 3 defenders, etc.). As the coach, you will decide that depending upon the flow of the game.
Encourage the correct receiving technique. For example, trying to stamp on the ball with the bottom of their cleat to stop the ball and it goes straight under their foot: This is a moment worth coaching. Or, a player tries to receive the ball with the inside of their foot but they lay their foot flat on the ground and the ball rolls over it: This is a moment worth coaching,
