Duration: 25-20 mins Zones: 1&2 Equipment: (10 balls) (1 full size goal 2 mini goals) (3 sets of bibs)
Players: 16 players 1 GK Principles of Play: Dispersal, Support, Mobility, Penetration
Objective: For the red team to successfully get the ball from zone 1 into zone 2 finishing with the ball in one of the mini goals.
Set up: Focusing on the red team. Red team plays with 4 defenders, 1 defensive mid, 2 wingers and 1 attacking mid trying to score on the mini goals. Blue and yellow play with 3 forwards and 1 attacking mid. Blue plays the ball in having a shot at the GK then begin a high press trying to regain possession. After 2 mins Blue and yellow switch to maintain high pressure.
Triggers: If ball goes out of play blue or yellow plays a pass into the GK
Progression: Red team is limited to one or two touch
Regression: Blue or Yellow team allow Red team to complete two passes before applying pressure
Coaching Points:
-Centre-backs must be confident to pass ball into mids and receive back to circulate play across the back four.
-Open body shape to play forward when possible.
-Timing of the runs
-Supporting the player and the ball
-checking shoulders
-no touch turns and receive to turn
-make the pitch big
-interchanging of positions
-changes of speed and changes of direction
-use the goalkeeper to pivot and switch point of attack as well as central players
-LB and RB should be encouraged to make forwards runs
