Playing Forwards Drill 2 (15 mins)

Playing Forwards / Line Breaking Passing Drill (10 Mins)

- Red keep possession in the red zones

- Blue have to try to intercept the ball, if they intercept the ball, 1 point, if they score 3 points!

- Red team get 1 point every time they switch the ball from one end zone to the next.

- Red team can play a direct ball from end zone to end zone (not in the air though).

Timings:

Rotate blue team every 2 mins, 5 sets.

Coaching Points:

- Move off cone and drop into box to recieve - (Don't move off cone too early)

- Check shoulders before moving off

- Recieve back foot, open up and play forwards

- Encourage 2 touch play

Activity 2: 3v1 PASSING and RECEIVING (10 mins)

OBJECTIVE: To improve the technique of passing and receiving the ball. 

PLAYER ACTIONS: Pass the ball forward.

ORGANIZATION: Set up two 13Wx20L grids with two inner grids, one of 15Wx13L yards and a smaller one of 13Wx9L yards as show in the diagram with three passers, a defender and a mini goal at each end as shown in the diagram. The possession team tries to make as many passes through the smaller yellow rectangle in one interval. If the defender gets the ball, he/she can score by passing the ball through one of the two goals. Switch defenders every interval.

GUIDED QUESTIONS: 1. Why do we need to make a triangle? 2. How should your body shape be? 3. Why should we be supporting in an angle? 4. What do we do if we lose the ball to the defender?

ANSWERS: 1. To have passing options to the right and left of the ball – 2.You should be facing the ball and the defender – 3. To create a diagonal passing lane – 4. Quickly get in front of the player with the ball.

Turn the head before the ball arrives

Efficiency of the turn - move with the ball

Progression is to add combinations centrally and at the point of the Y before playing final pass.

6v6 Zone game - 2 goals - GK (25 mins)

Organization - 50 by 30 - divided into 5 zones - 6 vs 6 (5v5 + GKers), sub zones within each zone to seperate players. The players with the GK either build up or are forwards on the other side and score.

Rules - Ball starts with the gk in zone with 3 players (Secure zone), they must move the ball forward to the MF or For and score on the opposite goal. Defenders intercept in their zone and block passing lines forward. When the ball goes out coach feeds a ball to the opposite GK. Reds can win the ball and score on near goal or play to opposite defenders past 1 MF to score on opposite goal.

Coaching points - Make it big (depth - width), big distance between players, always look deep first, shoot whenever possible, support with out the ball at an angle (create triangles), open body to see downfield, if you can not play forward, pass back, pass sqare or move at an angle with the ball (change the picture for defenders), do not stand with the ball. COMMUNICATE - ask for and want the ball. follow in all shots
