Description

Objectives: The close space and passing urgency creates an opportunity for passing momentum and flow to command the drill. Priority is on players practicing to anticipate good spaces to support teammates, getting out of the way after their pass, and cycling back into the flow of the drill seamlessly.

Chaos Square (10 mins)

Session Organization:

Field: Set up a square space ~20 x 20 yards. Balls on the side with the coach.
Players: Two teams of 5 players each inside the square.
Coach feeds two balls into the square, one for each team.
No active defending.
Each team creates an order and must pass to each other in that order.
Players must touch one of the 4 corner cones after each pass, before they can rejoin the drill and receive another.
Players must touch a different cone after each pass.

Coaching Points:

Avoid standing still. Circulate around the space and anticipate opening up areas to attack and check to the ball in.
Small space with many players will create chaos. Keep your head up and moving, and balance the weight of your passes appropriately.

Progressions:

Coach calls out 'Reverse' to change the order of the pattern.
Shrink the space to increase the chaos further.
Remove one of the balls and play again, this time with active defending from the opposing team.
