Specific practice20 mins

Reds (Coached team): 3-4-2-1 w/o CB's, GK

Blues (Opposition): 4-3-3 w/o WF's, ST

7v7 + Blue GK

Problem 1:

Opposition compact central areas with CB's, further FB and midfield 3

Solution 1:

Utilise 2 v 1's in wide areas to attack box triangles and try to turn defenders to face their own goal

Problem 2:

Opposition CM's help cover the 2 v 1 in wide areas to make it a 2 v 2

Solution 2:

Look to switch play and exploit gaps through the middle or create a 2 v 1 by switching play quickly

Coaching points (Coached team):

AM and WB:

Receive on back foot looking to take a positive first touch

Attack opposition FB direct with speed

WB looks to underlap if AM pulls wide

WB overlaps if AM drives inside with the ball

Commit opposition WB and release the ball at optimal moment to open up the box triangle

If opposition are not set, cross low, and fast using the 6 yard box as a guide

If opposition set quickly stand cross up to far post or cut back to waiting midfielder

If available use early crosses to turn defence around

Opposite AM attacks crosses late at far post

Maximise width and depth

Take risks in possession

ST, AM's and DM's:

ST attacks crosses across the GK at the front post

Furthest AM attacks quickly to back post

Closest DM hangs back for cutbacks

Stay within central zone to compact the opposition with the threat of line breaking passes

ST makes 2 movements, 1 for the defender, 1 for him

First move 'for defender' is towards far post, before exploding to the front post to score

Opposition management:

Remain compact, no more than 10 yards between lines

Force over or around

Return to starting positions within 3 seconds of any dead ball (Blue mannequin)

Reference points:

AM's between 6 and 18, halfway between DM and ST

DM's between 6 and 18 just past halfway line

WB's as high as possible and on the touchline

ST as high as possible between CB's, don't leave width of the box

Challenges (Team):

Can we look to isolate the full back 2 v 1?

Can we force defenders to face their own goal?

Can we look to utilise the overlaps and underlaps to enter box triangles?

Challenges (Individual):

Can the ST finish first time?

Can the DM's create a 3 v 2 if opposing CM's commit to defending wide areas?

Can the WB's score directly from box triangles?

Conditions:

Play restarts from halfway line every possession

Blues may not press the ball in middle third (Behind the red line)

Each possession must start with a DM receiving the ball

Blues must all start in central zones

Targets:

Reds attacking main goal

Blues attacking mini goals (Must score in 5 seconds after winning the ball

3 goals for red scoring using box triangles

Spare players:

Red CB and Blue ST doing position specific work
