Principle based session into team training focusing on defensive principles & looking at tactical returns of defending from the front and protecting central areas

Organisation:
- Narrow the pitch 5 yards in from the touchline on both sides. Use 1/3 of a pitch with 3 mini goals ans 2 big goals
- Bibs laid out in positions in readiness.
- Plenty of balls situated with the red team GK's goal

Objective:
To work on a protecting central areas mand how to enage the press from the front. Reds must press and look to regain and score in big goals - Blues have possession and must look to score in wide mini goals for 1 goal or central goal for 3.
Key Factors:
Where should the reds press in order to win the ball back effectively in the final/Mid third?
Defensive key points:
- Pressure on the ball: When; where; how; who?
- Communication
- Angles and distances of support
- Compact and narrow shape
- Decision making
- Tracking runners

Organisation:
- Narrow the pitch 5 yards in from the touchline on both sides. Use 3/4 of a pitch with 2 big goals, pitch split into two playing a back four v front 4 with them looking to play into one of the CMs who are locked in between manniquins. Front 4 looking to cut off passing lanes and press ball player.
- Bibs laid out in positions in readiness.
- Block 2 (Cms can drop in to area to recieve)
Time: 2x4mins/2mins
Objective:
To work on a protecting central areas and how to enage the press from the front. Reds look to play into CM yellows - if they do the Cms play pass into oppostie Gk and the same principle happens the other side.

SSG -
Defending from the front with a lone striker, withdrawn striker and midfield 4 in a mid block
Organisation:
- 3/4 pitch marked out, tapered at one end to allow for no blue FB's playing (55x70)
- Time: 3x8mins/4mins rest provide tactical solutions and manage physical input
- 9 v 9 (including GK's)
- Reds in a 2-4-2 formation
- Blues in a 2-4-1-1 formation. This is the team being coached.
-Focus: Tactical returns from the game is we want the RED CF & WCF to understand roles ball side, opposite ball side and central when defending from the front and varies situations.
Effect the unit and the individual - coach on the ball / around the ball / away from the ball.
Can you also effect the three new players - CB's and GK?
Objective:
Can the blues progress from what is coached in the previos practice and apply it into team training 9v9
Can the red's play out from the back and score within 10 seconds?
Coaching points:
- Knowing when to press / when to encourage the opposition to play out from the back to set a trap
Block 1: Mid block, CF cutting off CB & Pressure ball
Block 2: WCF Press the CBs
Block 3: WCF in line with FB

8 v 4 - 6 Reds around the outside plus 2 in the middle.
3 x 4 Minute Blocks
How to Play
The Red team try to keep possession, using the 2 players in the middle.
The Grey team defend as a Unit and try to win the ball.
When the Grey team win the ball they try to keep possession against the 2 Reds, if they don't win the ball within 20 seconds, 2 of the outside Reds switch in & the middle Reds switch out.
Possible Coaching Points
Anticipate turnovers & switch from attacking to defending & vice versa.
Try to win the ball back as quickly as possible.
One defender drop deeper than the other 3 to help organise & provide balance.
