Football/Soccer Session (Moderate): Technical - Skills to Beat a Defender
Description
The focus of this session is to improve the ability of the players to beat a defender off of the dribble. Looking for players to be confident on the ball, to go at the defender with speed, perform a skill move, and drive on. Make sure the players understand the importance of changing speed, direction, and driving with control.Coaching Points:

Technical Work (20 mins)
Technical Work - Skills to Beat a Defender (20 mins)5 Sets x 4 mins ( min each direction)
2 players will go at the same timeNext 2 players go once the move in the middle has been completed
1. Dribble Roll w/ R & L (make sure roll is angled not sideways)
2. Dribble Feint L&R (make sure ball is pushed past the pole not sideways)
3. Scissors L&R (make sure ball is pushed past pole)
4. Electric Slide (make sure second touch takes you forward)
5. Combination of Roll and Scissors

Switch player in the middle each time
4 x 4 min rounds
- Player in the middle tries to get out of 1 of the 4 gates
- Red defenders try to stop the player from dribbling out but cannot pressure the player with the ball
- Reds can move in front of the gate and tackle if they try to go through the gate

Coaching Points:
Game 1: Freeze Tag
1. Everyone has a ball
2. Put one tagger in a penny
3. Tagger dribbles soccer ball and tries to tag other players
4. Non taggers look to stay away from the tagger by dribbling away
5. If tagged player is frozen and puts ball above their head
6. Only way to be unfrozen is if someone dribbles up to you and pass ball between your legs
7. Rotate tagger each round
Water Break at 10 mins
Grid 20 x 20 (set up 2 to split for bigger numbers)
Game 2: Sharks and Minnows
1. Blue players try to get from one end zone to the other
2. Red player tries to tag them before they get there
3. All players must keep their ball
4. If tagged you help the tagger in the middle next round
5. Once there is one player left, they are the winner and become the tagger next
Water Break at 10 mins
Grid 30 long x 20 wide x 5 yard endzone
Game 3: 1v1 to Gates
8 x 2 min rounds x 30 second rest
Rotate players to new playing area each round
