3v3+2 With Counter Attack Transition

Key Factors

  • 3 players on each team, and two neutral players. The neutral players will always be on the team with the ball, creating an attacking overload.
  • The team on the ball must make 5 successful passes inside the red square, once they have done this they can go and score in either of the small goals.
  • The two teams must quickly transition from possession based game to defending/attacking - creating a breakout aspect
  • Once the ball has gone dead the other team starts with it back in the square

Organisation

  • Start with a 15x15 square
  • Set the goals (can just use cone gates) about 10 yards back from the square
  • The number of neutral players can be decreased/increased as a progression/regression
  • Numbers can be adjusted to suit the amount of players (two separate squares can be set up if there are enough), but always ensuring that attacking overload.
  • Rotate the neutral players regularly

Progression/Regressions

  • The number of neutral players can be decreased/increased as a progression/regression
  • Square size can be altered to give more/less space
  • Progress to teams having an assigned goal to score in - this creates an added aspect of whether they should sit back and organised out of possession or go and win the ball back to prevent the 5 passes being made (simulating a decision whether to press high or not during a game)

Coaching Points

  • Movement off the ball in the square creating angles for the pass
  • Fast-accurate passing to progress through the 5 passes as quickly as possible
  • Decision making, which goal are we going to, why?
  • Transition speed (both teams), how quickly can we move to directional attacking as if it were a counter attack.
