Technical - changes of direction. Start by moving towards 2 angled cones and reviewing change of direction techniques and introduction of new technique. At start they all can have a ball or it can be passed, your choice. Player waiting to go next always travels in opposite direction from player who just went. Works best with 3 in each line as they will always travel in a different direction each time. With 4, you have to mix order after a short time and race twice to make sure both directions get practiced. Then, can progress into twist off in combination with new change of direction technique used at top of diamond (as demonstrated on instructor development night). In beginning portion, this is an opportunity for the instructor to apply some pressure from middle of diamond as players turn away from pressure on inside (shown in first space on the left). After some practice, progress to a race.

The Octagon. 1v2 with 3 teams of 3. If 1 team has 2, instructor needs to be server for them or the time between reps will lag. Points scored for dribbling under control through any of the 4 gates. Bonus points can be awarded for use of new technique introduced in this session. Each team goes for a certain period of time and then rotates. Unless you have 2 instructors to run 1 octagon each, this requires 18 players to run 2 spaces (or 15 minimum with instructor as server in 1 space, limiting feedback/encouragement in other space). Can be run with as few as 6 players with instructor as server.

1v1 continuous activity. This is for when there are uneven numbers, note neutral in yellow. Neutral is always in possession team, never on outside. Teams in possession have all players start with a ball. If ball gets cleared from space, they become a support player for players on the ball still. Defenders start in corner of grid, enetring space on 8 second intervals (or adjusted for group). Players work to keep one ball alive as long as possible. Team that has the highest time after each round wins the point. Can reward 5 seconds to time for each effective use of new technique away from pressure.

3v1 rondo, everyone starts with a ball. This is for when there are even numbers and can divide group up. 12 players would have 3 teams and 3 spaces. Team gets point for keeping one ball alive the longest.

Technical - relays (20 mins)
Technical - changes of direction relays. Players carry the ball across the grid, executing 2 changes of direction in the middle before continuing to opposite side from starting point. Players have to get across line under control of the ball before next player goes (puts focus on changing speed after changing direction and dribbling under control). Can reveiew outside & inside cuts, step overs & introduce new chnage of direction technique. When introducing new technique, I will keep the players at one end and only have them moving between the nearest set of cones and starting point. The middle portion with 2 changes of direction I use to combine 2 separate techniques now, as may happen in a game scenario.
Instruction points :
- reinforce all technical points on changes of direction
- changes in speed should happen throughout
- pigeon-toed dribble
- the middle portion needs to happen very quickly, with acceleration away
