Pressing From The Front

Coach acts as GK for distribution to the defenders. Can be GK if numbers allow.

Attacking Team (Purples), are trying to play out from the back, attacking the mini goals. If they score, they get a goal. If they can go through the middle gate, they get a point also.

Defending team are pressing from the front. They must start behind the red line to set the trap but can go past it as soon as the ball is passed from the GK. If they can win the ball before attacking team get past the red line, they will score 2 points. If they can prevent the attackers from scoring, they will score 1 point. If they win the ball and score, they'll receive 3 points.

Coaching Points:

  • Close down the space as quickly as possible. 
  • Force the attackers out wide to shut off options. Body shape etc.
  • Organise team shape to prevent opposition players receiving the ball. Don't all run to the ball at once, think about how you can apply pressure but marking opposing players out of the game.

Shielding and Turning (15 mins)

Shielding and Turning (Technical)

Pitch is split into 2 channels with a half way line on each. 1 Defender on each channel in the middle trying to win the ball.

Middle player for the purples must drop into the half of the player in possession of the ball at each end and receive it. He must then shield the ball and turn by carrying the ball over the halfway line and passing into the player at the opposite end. Then do the same going the other way. Each time he successfully turns and passes to opposite end, he will receive a point. Person with the highest points at the end, wins. Make the box quite narrow to ensure its hard to turn and has to shield the ball.

Coaching Points:


  • Ensure body is in-between the ball and defender.
  • Use arms to fend off opponent. 
  • Keep the ball as far away as possible from opponent.
  • Quick tempo.
