Set Up:
As above
Instructions:
2v1 constant attack - as soon as yellow teams shoots, the red team starts on the counter attack right away. The player to last touch the ball on the attacking team leaves the playing area and the other one becomes the defender.
Progression:
- Any one of the attackers can become the defender
- One of the attacking players can stay and defend after shooting while the other must touch the post of the goal they are shooting on and become a recovering defender
- It automatically becomes a 2v2 game without anyone dropping out or touching the post first.
Coaching Points:
- decide to pass or dribble at the beginning
- use other player as a support player or decoy
- push ball with front of foot (laces)
- head up on occasion and take advantage of the open spaces given

Soccer Tennis: Pressure and Cover
Set-Up: Field is 20yds x 35yds, with 5 yard central zone. Balls
located centrally off to the side with the Coach. 3 teams of 5 in
different colors.
Instructions:
The coach plays a ball in to one of the attacking team who attempt to connect 5 passes and transfer ball across to other grid to score a point. Start by having the ball played on the ground to the other team.
The defending team defends with 2 players against 5. The 3 remaining are on the side waiting to press when the ball is played to the other side.
Progression:
1. Add one screening defender in the middle channel to deny spaces and balance the two pressing defenders.
2. The screening defender can decide to stay or step into the box and help defend or balance the press whole the weak side defender drops.
3. A player from the other attacking team who are waiting to receive the ball can drop into the middle channel to receive a ball and help transition the play forward or draw a defender out of position
Coaching Points:
> Pressure - do we apply fast or slow pressure (what are the ques to think about)
> Cover - am I in a good position to deny a forward pass and defend the next obvious pass
> Balance - can I provide additional support to the players in front of me and clean up any gaps
> Communication and work together as a unit.

Organization:
As seen above
Instructions: *(defenders get a point upon stopping the attack or blocking the pass into attacking zone)
The ball will always start with the two red players who are passing pack and fourth trying to get the ball to their teammate in the attacking zone who will dribble and score on the goal. The defending player in the middle zone is shifting trying to deny the pass and then when the pass is made, can track back and attempt to stop the player from scoring. Rotate the players often to give them a chance to attack and defend.
Progression:
1. Players are now allowed to dribble the ball into the attacking zone if there is space and the defender will track and it becomes a 2v1 with the other player already in the attacking zone.
1a. The defender in the middle zone can try leave their zone to apply pressure when it makes sense. This will either force a pass or dribbling opportunity for the two attacking players.
2. Add a defender beside the goal as shown in the picture. When the two players in red pass or dribble into the attacking zone, one of them joins the attack and there is a defender on yellow who will be entering the play. Again the attacking team should have a temporary advantage if they transition quickly.
Coaching Points:
1. Decision making/awareness - when to dribble (not always the best option) or when to pass
2. Passes to feet or into space for a dribble option
3. Use the pass as a decoy to create a dribbling opportunity
4. Open body position to receive the ball
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organization:
- Field is 75Lx55W Yards.
- Both teams are set in a 1-3-3-2 Formation.
- Extra balls placed next to the goal.
Instructions:
- Focus on the center back movement (splitting wide to the edge of the 18 yard box to create room) for when the GK gets the ball for a goal-kick or ball is played back to them
- Looking to build out from zone 1 into zone 3 using back CB & CM

Attacking/ Defending Transition Game (20 mins)
Organization:
As above
Instructions:
This is a transition game between attacking and defending. To start the game: the yellow player will start in the middle of the grid and pass a ball to the red player. Upon passing the ball the red player attacks and attempts to score in the big goal while the yellow player tries to regain possession. After the red player shoots on goal, they become a defender and a yellow player dribbles into the field of play to create a 2v1 against red and they attack. Upon scoring or shooting, a red player dribbles into the field of play and now it's a 2v2 and after the shot has been taken, a yellow player dribbles into the field of play to create a 3v2 attack. After the shot has been taken, all players leave the field and we restart again.
*In this entire sequence, if the defender wins the ball, they pass the ball through the two yellow gates for a point. After winning the ball and passing in through the gate, the sequence continues with a player joining in to create an advantage for their team.*
Progressions:
- After the 1v1, players entering must make a pass into their teammate to join and cannot just dribble into the play
-Could go beyond 3v2 to have a 3v3, 4v3 or more.
Coaching Points:
- Anticipation and awareness of space and quickly attack
- Point of attack (dribble at the defender or dribble at a diagonal to attack space created)
- Recognizing numbers up (2v1) and exploiting it
- Draw the defender by dribbling and pass or exploit open space
