Aim; replicate defending positions in a game which one of the defenders wins
Set up; no change from inital
Instructions;
- in pairs, the players are stud opposite each other, the aim of the exercise is to touch the oppositions leading knee, positions wise jockeying to get the right position
progression;
- (demo) one defender pressing to reach the knee, the other jockeying away and then switching the press (use of whole circle) - also increasing awareness of whos around in the refined space

Setup;
- 25-30 yards from goal the 2 sets players will be in two groups (Red and Blue). The two groups will line up on opposite sides - each player will have a ball
- add GK
Instructions;
On the coach’s command, the first player in the Red group dribbles the ball with speed at the edge of the penalty box and shoots
straight after the shot, the first player from the blue group dribbles at the penalty box and the Red player defends his attempt. After the Blue player shoots, they immediately defend the next red player who is now attacking. Repeat this rotation throughout the drill
Coaching Points;
Attacking:
Make sure the attack is quick, controlled and the player gets the shot off quickly
Defending:
Transition Quickly from Offense to Defense and the ability to tackle and keep the ball and change back to offense

Small Sided Game;
Progression from previous defneding exercise -
1vs1 scenario - each player can only tackel a certain oppostion, increasing defending and actions. as progression goes ease into 3vs3
Rules:
no goalkeeper long kicks
no throwin's
no dribble in's
defense to attack w/goal = 2 goals

Warm up A (10 mins)
Aim: As many touches as possible and a slow intro to defending
Setup;
- Build a circle approximately the size of the center circle - depending on numbers.
- Place a Pugg Goal in the middle of the circle. 80% of the players start with a ball to feet, the other 20% dont have a ball and can be bibbed
Insturctions;
- Instruct the "Pirates" without the ball to defend the players with the balls.
- Once the Pirate wins the ball, they attempt to score on the Pugg Goal in the middle of the circle.
- If the Pirate scores the goal, that player becomes a Pirate.
Coaching Points;
- Defending: Positioning in relation to attackers, and then transition quickly from defense to offensive and stay focused once the ball is won, and find the target.
- Attacking: keep the ball close with head up so the players are aware of defenders and safety areas (space). If the ball is lost, recover quickly and fight to win it back.
