Session beds in the basics of throw-ins, and works a couple of patterns, using decoy runs. Focus on control and player movement to retain balance. Then goes into 4v1, 5v2 to goal and a final SSG where all restarts are throw-ins.

15x20 area. Groups of up to 6.
A starts behind mannekin and times run towards thrower B.
B throws in - aiming for shin.
A meets throw and returns with foot on volley to B at an angle.
B takes touch and plays up to C.
Rotation : A joins B queue, B waits behind mannekin for next throw from C. Continue end to end.
*Technique of throw - one smooth movement, knees/ankles flexed, aim for shin
*Timing of run to meet throw
*Get into line of ball - select which part of which foot
*Cushion ball back at an angle determined by movement of thrower - ON VOLLEY to eliminate bad bounce.
Progression:
1. Receive on head and back
2. Receive on chest and back
3. Receive on thigh and play back with foot.
4.Use both feet i.e. thrower moves L and R alternately

20x30 area 5v5 (but can adjust to 4v4).
4 blues are on pitch but are neutral. Can move as R1 chooses his throwing position, then stationery - no movement and no pressure - just there to add realism for the reds who adjust their positions and passes accordingly.
Reds have 1 or 2 touches only and limit play to defensive defence/midfield until pass 6.
R3 starts central and makes decoy run so thrower R1 can throw to R2 who comes into the space created.
R2 returns on 1 touch.
R1 plays deep to R4 who takes 2 touches to pass long to R5 who has moved wide.
R3 has continued decoy run to receive from R5 and score in goal A in1 touch.
Ensure R2 recognises that he is now the 'central last man', and that R4 provides balance on R.
Rotation: Blues now throw in from the other side using same pattern to score in goal B. Reds become neutral. Continue with alternate teams in play until 5 balls used then restart. Get players to change positions after every play.
*Timing of runs with throw
*Movement to receive
*Shape and balance
*1 touch finish
Progression : coach decides which goal gets attacked each play and positions neutral players to increase difficulty.
If time show a further pattern - say R2 controls and turns to play in to R5, or R1 fakes to throw centrally but just throws deep to R4.

Alternative when 4 players only.
Right sided player R3 is decoy while front player R5 drops in to receive and return.
R1 receives, plays to R4 and follows pass, becoming deepest.
R4 receives from R1 and becomes the new right side player after passing long to R3 who continues his decoy run to become the new front man.

30x20 area. 5v2. (If groups of 4, start with 4v1)
Reds play for 1 minute, taking throw-ins from either side attacking goal A with blues defending.
Emphasis on control from throw under pressure, and moving ball quickly using limited touches.
Also encourage good defensive principles of pressing the 1st touch and not diving in.
Progress by going to 5v3 and allowing defending team to pass out to a team member if they winn the ball. He throws-in and they then attack, new defending team lose 2 men.

Play 5v5, all restarts are throw-ins at half way. Allow multi touch but finishes must be 1 touch.

Warm up (15 mins)
For more advanced players can use this as a warm up, with 3 groups.
A is the simple throw, receive and pass to other end. With thrower becoming the next receiver.
B adds a 1-2.
C requires the thrower to choose where he receives, and the receiver to react accordingly.
