  • To improve my teams ability to press and Winn the ball back against a 433 trying to play out from the back

ORGANISATION:

  • 2 x 6v2 rondos
  • no limit on touches

HOW TO PLAY:

  • team of 6 will keep possession away from the team of 2
  • working for 60 second
  • how many times can chasing team win the ball back

COACHING POINTS:

  • intensity
  • communication 
  • angles of approach
  • working as a pair not on your own
  • read the play

CHANGE IT / PROGRESSIONS:

  • if too hard to win ball back reduce the size of the grid
  • or change to 5v3

3v3/6v6 transfer game (25 mins)

ORGANISATION:

  • Two areas with two separate games.
  • 3v3 inside area with a floater on either end

HOW TO PLAY:

  • team in possession will attempt to play from end player, to end player, either through the middle players or directly.
  • team out of possession will attempt to stop them
  • on a changeover of possession the roles change
  • end players are two touch to begin with and the ball cannot stop moving
  • players on the inside are all in

COACHING POINTS:

  • pressure on the ball once it enter the area.
  • covering positions and distances
  • do not get allow ball to split us
  • can we force a mistake 
  • awareness and communication. can our deepest player communicate what's wanted?
  • body shape and angle of approach. where do we want them to go?
  • recognise opportunities to double up. head down/lack of options/poor touch

CHANGE IT / PROGRESSIONS:

  • combine both pitches for a 6v6 game in the middle. increasing the amount of defensive decision making.
  • once combined, allow the defensive team to tackle end player if opportunity arises.
  • ALLOW THE END PLAYERS TO BE TACKLED

7v9 half pitch game

ORGANISATION:

  • team playing out form the back in a 431 formation and scoring in two mini goals

  • team pressing will play in 133 formation and will score in the full size goal if they win it back
  • full half used

HOW TO PLAY:

  • always restart from a goal kick 
  • to begin with ball must always be player to a CB
  • no other conditions on team attacking 
  • defensive team will work as a group to press and win the ball back. while still protecting their goals

COACHING POINTS:

  • the 9 will be the first to press attempting to force the play one way and prevent switch
  • remaining compact, connected and minimising distances
  • don't allow the ball the be played through us by blocking passing lanes
  • players to be on ball side of their opponent
  • shifting quickly as ball moves
  • attempt to make play predictable so we can trap and create pressure on the ball 
  • watch for triggers to double up or win the ball. slow pass? poor touch?no options

what if they manage to switch it after our initial press.??

  • can we delay them and allow time to recover into a better shape

  • think about protecting the goal(forward passing option)
  • midfielders need to identify danger 

what if we win it back?

  • break quickly 

  • be positive
  • don't rest, GOALS GOALS GOALS

CHANGE IT / PROGRESSIONS:

  • allow gk to pick whatever pass he wants making them less predictable and forcing defensive team to deal with different problems
