Animation 1

Set Piece - Attacking Corner 

- In this will line up in a group of four starting at the penalty spot. 

- Each player will have to make a run toward their specific spot. 

- Player 2 will make a run to the front post. 

- Player 3 will make a run to the back post. 

- Player 4 will push up slightly in front of the penalty spot. 

- Player 5 will stay at the top of the 18 for any chance balls. 

Coaching Point:

- It's important that the player taking the corner kick gives a signal or alert to the player in the box so they are ready for to receive. Have them find a target. 

- Have players time their runs.

- Remind players to go to the ball and not away from it.

Set Piece - Attacking Free Kick 

- This set piece should preferably be used from the right or left side. 

- Two options are available in using this set piece. 

A: 

- Player 2 will dummy the ball and run toward the corner flag. 

- Player 1 will then play the ball toward player 2 who is already making a run. 

- Players 3, 4, 5, & 6 will then crash the net looking to connect with the cross from player 2. 

- Player 2 will then receive the ball and cross to their teammates waiting in the box. 

B:

- Player 2 will dummy the ball and make a run toward the corner flag bringing attention and dragging out the defense. 

- Player 1 will then cross the ball into the box and connect with one of the players making a run. 

- Players 3, 4, 5, & 6 will then crash the net looking to connect with the cross from player 1. 

Coaching Points: 

- Give Player 2 the opportunity to choose whether to cross the ball on the ground or in the air. Make sure player 2 scans the area and looks to connect with players waiting to receive the ball. 

- Encourage player 1 to take a shot on goal and not only center the ball. 

- Players 3, 4, 5, & 6 should time their runs and look to find the ball. Watch offsides.

Set Piece - Defending a Corner

- Have players cover the front and back post. 

- Players 3, 4, 5, & 6 should be man-marking their players and staying on them. 

- Players 3, 4, 5, & 6 have a designated area to cover. if an opposing player steps into their area they must mark them and apply pressure. 

Coaching points:

- Kick and head the ball out. 

- If the team wins the ball make sure to clear it out down the wings.

- Once the ball is cleared out, have the team push up and not stay in the box. 

- If played quickly this will provide the team an opportunity to counter attack.

Set Piece - Defending a free kick from a scoring position

- The goalkeeper should place a wall accordingly. Those players must listen to their keeper and stay close together. 

- The rest of the players should be man-marking the opposing players. 

- Play offsides trap if needed. Make sure everyone is lined up with the last defender. 

Coaching Point:

- Once the ball is won clear it towards the corners or down the line. 

- Make sure that the players are listening to their goalkeeper.
