2 Ball Rondo (15 mins)

Session Organization:

  • Two areas about 20ydx20yds. Two balls are active in each square, one on the ground, and one being tossed in the air. The game objective is to keep the balls moving from player to player without dropping either of them or playing a ball to a teammate at the same time (by ground and air). In the second variation, have the players number themselves so as to have an established order. On coaches whistle, the player next up will leave their grid, enter the opponents grid, and attempt to win the ground ball to score in a mini goal before the other teams defender.

Technical Points:

  • This exercise is a fun way to get the players to collaborate and strategize together on how to best succeed. The novelty of the air ball adds a layer of complexity to this rondo type activity.

Keywords:

  • Scanning (for new space and the defender)
  • Maximize the space
  • Pass and move

2V1+Screen (15 mins)

Session Organization:

6 players (players organized in pairs)

  • •5x13 yard area with a 3-yard median
•Two possession teams versus one defensive team (green) to start
•Objective is to use the overload to transfer ball across median
•If a team loses possession, they immediately transition to defensiveteam so there’s a huge focus on transition

Technical Points:

  • Each successful pass to the opposing team across the median is 1 point for the possession team.

Keywords:

  • 2v1 Behind
  • Slide Through / Split the defenders
  • Scan to find space

Wave Game (Attacking) (15 mins)

Session Organization:

  • A field set with two teams and two full size goals. One team will have a player set up in the middle of the playing area as a striker or 10. On first whistle, the ball is played in from the GK, to the center player who always starts in the center. That player must attempt to turn and shoot before being closed down by the 2 blue defenders. If blue wins possession they must score within 10 seconds, they can use their GK.
  • After this shot, the red team will add two players into play, with one of them driving in with a ball creating a 3V2.

Technical Points:

- The teams will switch starting roles mid way through, the emphasis is on the blue team to pressure the ball to create a transition moment.

Keywords:

  • Take the first and last step.
  • Close down the attackers space.
  • Work together into a tight unit (dense web).
  • When we win the ball, maximize the space (stretch the web).
