Specific (20 mins)

Reds (Coached team): 3-4-2-1 w/o WB's, GK

Blues (Opposition): 3-4-3 w/o WB's, GK

Problem 1:

Opposition sit deep and compact as a unit

Solution 1:

Patient build up, utilise the 6 v 5 central overload created by strikers playing high and wide

Problem 2:

Opposition aggressive high press man for man

Solution 2:

Threaten direct passes to strikers 2 v 2 to stretch opposition or force them to retreat their press

Coaching points (Coached team):

Team:

Ball speed: Fast, driven passes to back foot when available to draw players into isolated positions

Find the spare player

Rotate positions: When available positional rotation to draw defenders out of shape to create gaps

Create the overloads by committing opponents, beating one creates a big overload in the next phase

DM's exploit gaps between opposition striker and AM's,

Ball side DM releases higher up the pitch to provide an option down the line

Far side DM drops into central pocket between the lines

AM's rotates with DM's and can drop into a space that opens up to overload opposition attack and midfield

ST's remains high to threaten the possibility of a direct approach

Opposition management:

Remain compact, no more than 10 yards between lines

Force over or around

Return to starting positions within 3 seconds of any dead ball (Blue mannequin)

Reference points:

RCB, LCB: Width of the box

CB: Between the goal posts, deeper than wide centre backs

DM's width of the 6 yard box, maximum 10 yards from CB's

AM's width of the box, between opposition CM and CB when possible

ST as high as possible to stretch opposition

Challenges (Team):

Can we look to isolate individual defenders in 2 v 1's?

Can we recognise opportunities to progress the ball?

Can we look to push up the field with the ball to overload the next defensive line

Challenges (Individual):

Can the DM's maximise their touches?

Can the AM's communicate rotations with DM's?

Can ST occasionally drop deep to extend the overload?

Conditions:

Play restarts from red CB every possession

Targets:

Blues must score in 5 seconds after winning the ball

1 point per goal

GK demand the ball to draw opposition forward and create gaps between the lines and create a greater overload on opposition front 3

Opposition management:

Remain compact, no more than 10 yards between lines

Force over or around

Return to starting positions within 3 seconds of any dead ball (Blue mannequin)

Reference points:

GK: Centre of the goal, step up when needed to sweep
