Mental Foundation-5 E's/Setting Goals Strengths and Inprovements (5 mins)

Set Up: 

In the 30mx20m 5v5 pitch central area, all players in a circle.

Instructions: To be done in 2'-Martin Leading

  • All players are welcome/screen process in the circle.
  • Players reflect E's (BP-Energy/Effort).
  • Introduce the topic and opportunity for players to focus on their individual goals for the session.

Variation/Progression:

  • At the end of the session, players have the opportunity to share individual achievements, connected to their individual goals for the session.

Key Coaching Points:

  • Coaches guide players to identify strengths and improvements.
  • Coaches to reinforce the importance of self-assessment/feedback.
  • Coaches' language to re-affirm what player's share to the group (e.g. I hear that...)

Player Coaching Points:

  • Expression.
  • Active listening.
  • Provide feedback to coaches.

Physical Foundation-IP/WU (5 mins)

Set Up: In the 30mx20m area, each player with a ball.

Instructions: To be done in 8'-Martin Leading.

Players dribbles the ball freely for 5 seconds and on coaches' whistle, accelerates to open space. The warmup follows the RAMP protocol/physical development and after players had performed the acceleration process, they perform a dynamic exercise (5 times), as follows:

  • Hip in/Hip out.
  • Leg swings (Forward and lateral)
  • Calf raises with (Ball overhead)
  • Standing Lunges (Ball overhead)
  • Lying Hamstrings curls with the ball.
  • Lateral bounds to accelerate.
  • COD's games (without/with the ball)

Variation: 

  • # of Repetitions
  • Different exercises (progressions/regressions).

  • Physical proficiency/literacy.
  • Accessing and assessing information.
  • Attack at speed free space.
  • Expression/Creativity.
  • Acceleration process.

Player Coaching Points:

  • Focus on correct execution of exercises.

Skill Game (10 mins)

Set Up:

5v5 end zone game on the 30mx20m field.

  • Two sets of 5 bibs.
  • 6 flat cones.
  • 10 footballs.

Instructions: To be done in 10' on both fields-All involved.

  • Field has two end zones. 
  • Attacking team score by running with the ball to the end zone (1 point); extra point if this is achieved by a different player.
  • Teams are on 1-3-1 and 2-1-2 formations.

Variations

  • Change formations (2-2-1)
  • Game is continuous-after running with the ball to the end zone, team transition quickly to attack opposite zone. 
  • Rotate player positions.
  • 2 points if defending team recovers the ball and scores by running with the ball in 5 seconds' period.
  • Score on medium size goal after entering the end zone (3 points).

Coaching Points

  • Visual exchange behaviours. 
  • Positioning to attack free space/Creating space.
  • Speed/Acceleration.

Players Coaching Points

  • Accessing information on the environment.
  • Movement of the ball, positioning in wide areas to attack space.
  • Attack at speed/Accelerate to free space with the ball (in control).

Skill Training 1 (10 mins)

Organisation: 

  • In the 30mx20m area, 1v1 games with defender from the front.
  • 2 small size goals.
  • Two sets of 5 bibs.
  • 4 flat cones-Yellow.
  • 10 footballs.

Instructions: To be done in 10'-Mark and Martin.

  • Player with the ball (Blue), deliver a diagonal pass to attacking player in the same team, who attacks any of the two small size goals (5 seconds); defending player (Red) applies pressure immediately to recover the ball in the 5 seconds (2 points if score in any of the two goals)-players run back to opposite lines.
  • Alternate attacking teams.

Variations:

  • Reduce/Increase cone area
  • Put gates instead of goals.
  • Add goals/gates.
  • The diagonal ball is delivered from the other side.

Coaching Points:

  • Access information on environment.
  • Ball control.
  • Speed (Acceleration)
  • Creativity.

Player Coaching Points

  • Access information in order to move the ball to available space.
  • Attack free space at speed; ahead/inside the defender.
  • Be creative using feints in order to change direction and attack opposite goal.
  • Accelerate after performing the feint in order to score.

Skill Training 2-Continous 1v1 Defender from behind (10 mins)

Organisation:

  • In the 30mx20m area, continuous 1v1 games with defender from behind.
  • Two sets of 5 bibs.
  • 8 flat cones-Yellow.
  • 8 flat cones-Pink.
  • 10 footballs.

Instructions: To be done in 10'-Nas and Jack.

  • Player with the ball (Red), runs with the ball at speed in order to go through the vertical and horizontal gates to score (using furthest foot only).
  • As soon as the red player scores, turns around and chase the blue player to stop him/her from scoring on the opposite side-blue player must go through vertical and horizontal gates to score.
  • Continuous games until everyone finishes-rest 15'' and go again.

Variations:

  • Reduce/Increase cone area.
  • Add a time constrain (3-5 seconds).
  • Change corners (to aloud driving the ball with opposite foot).
  • Players have the bib at the back of their shorts (tails).

Coaching Points:

  • Access information on environment.
  • Ball control with lases.
  • Driving the ball with furthest foot.
  • Speed (Acceleration)

Player Coaching Points

  • Access information in order to move the ball to available space.
  • Attack free space at speed; ahead/inside the defender.
  • Drive the ball using the furthest foot/away from the defender.
