Skill Introduction

Setup:

12m x 12m area, 2m x 2m squares in each corner.

3 players in each square (1 starts inside with the ball, other two slightly behind the square for safety reasons).

Explanation:

Simultaneously all four players with a ball will run the ball in a clockwise direction to the next square.

Once they reach the sqaure they stop the ball and then the next player (one of the two players slightly behind the sqaure) completes the same process.

Once the player gets to the next square they line up at that square to go again.

After each player has had 10 attempts give the players a short break then the process will start again going the opposite direction.

Competition:

The players will now do a full lap of the area as quickly as they can, once they get back to their square the next person in their group does the same until they are all finished. The team that finishes first wins the game.

If a player cuts a corner their team is disqualified.

Depending on how long each game takes play a maximum of 3 rounds.

Key points:

Can the players run the ball at pace between the corners.

Can the players slow themselves done when they reach the corner so they are in control.

Can the players always run with their outside foot (right foot in the diagram, left if direction is reversed).

Setup:

2 Setups, 15m x 10m area with a 2m x 10m scoring zone at either end.

6 players in the setup, 3 at either end in between the goals.

This can be done in one big setup however it is best to split into two to give the players lots of opportunities to run the ball.

Instructions:

Red Player runs the ball into scoring zone then finishes.

Once the red player enters the scoring zone with the ball, the blue player repeats the process by running the ball towards the opposite end. But now the red player who just dribbled the ball applies defensive pressure.

The process repeats itself.

Changes the goals the players attack after 5 minutes, so they dribble with the opposite foot.

Player Tasks (information to give players when they are struggling to succeed):

Can you use your furthest foot from the defender when running with the ball?

Can you scan to see where the defender is when running with the ball?

Can you run the ball at speed to keep away from the defender?

Progressions:

Reduce width/move goals closer together

Move the scoring zone further up.

Switch blue or red players over from other setup.

Regressions:

Move the goals wider apart.

Setup:

40m x 30m Area, Half way line at 20m.

Six players on each team.

Explanation:

2 balls going at once.

Players can pass in their own half but can only dribble in the opposition half.

Players must dribble over the half way line, if a pass goes across it becomes the other teams ball.

Players score by dribbling over the oppositions end line and stopping the ball.

Once a player scores they must get back to there own half before they can defend.
