Essence:
Staying out of the tackling area
Structure:
Players pair up and find a area in between the halfway and 23m area. One will defend for a few repetitons and a the other will be the attack.
The objective of the exercise is to keep the ball out of the defenders reach. After ten minutes players will change roles.
Pointers:
Player in possession muct be able to see both the ball and the defender.
The correct ball carrying technique must be applied, low body position parrot etc.
Players must always face the defender.
Variation:
+ Players can move with ball
+ Defenders can attempt to turnover the ball
- Defenders can defend without their stick

Essence:
Protecting in possession of the ball
Structure:
Players pair up and stand opposite each other as shown in the diagram. A cone or obstruction is placed in front of each player.
Player A passes to player B, Player B must move towards the ball and receive it infront of the obstruction. After player B receives the ball he moves around the obstruction and plays the ball to player A.
Pointers:
The body must be kept in between the ball and obstruction.
Open and closed receiving need to be applied. First closed and then open.
When open receiving players need to change their line to cut off the defender. Passes need to be played on both the fore and back hand
The timing of the lead is vital, receive on the move.
Variation:
+ Add defender
+ Pre-scan
+ Increase the distance
- Use only one obstruction

Essence:
Protecting the ball with defender on your back
Structure:
Player A passes the ball to player B who receives and protects the ball. Player B must try and run over the side line or protect the ball for more than 10s.
Pointers:
Make sure the body remains in between the ball and the defender.
accelrate and change your line once you have passed the defneder.
Variation:
+ Add defender
+ Extend time
- Passive defending

Essence:
Receiving with frontal pressure
Structure:
Player A passes the ball to player B who receives and attempts to beat the defedner.
The passing side can be alternated from the right hand side to the left.
The defender can begin defending once the ball is passed.
Pointers:
Player B must make sure he receives the ball with the defender in his line of sight.
When running towards the defender he needs to make sure he is aware of the defenders defensive zone and reach. Once he has elimanted the defender by either running and arching or through accelration player B must make sure he changes his line to cut off the defender.
Variation:
+ Add defender
+ Make area smaller
+ Player B's position closer to attacker
- Start defending once player B recives the ball
- Defender starts further away

Essence:
Protecting the ball against two or more defenders
Structure:
Player A plays the ball to player B.
Player B receives the ball and protects the ball for 10s.
Pointers:
Player B must try and protect the ball by applying the fundamentals of ball protection.
Players are allowed to use aerial skills once they have completed a few rounds.
Variation:
+ Make the training area smaller
+ Defenders can start once the ball has been played
- Reduce number of defenders
- Passive defending

Essence:
Fundamentals of protection - the body
Structure:
Each player has a ball and stands in the area in between the halfway and 23m line.
The coach positions himself on the 23m line and explains the neutral position and the four zones around a player in possession.
Pointers:
Players need to move on command and in relation to the trainers instruction. Commands are frontl eft, front right and backl eft back right.
The body needs to be used to protect the ball.
Variation:
+ Add movement

- Use cones to define zones
