Using the Width to Create Opportunities to Drive Forward

Session Plan:

Players in the playing zone will move the ball from one wing to the next, once the ball has been moved to both wings, the team can score by dribbling the ball through the gate (this is to replicate driving the ball forward).

Coaching Points:

When players receive the ball, make sure their body is open to allow them to see the whole pitch as well as allow them to play first time when possible.

When wide player receives the ball, remind the players around and away from the ball to give the angle to receive the next pass straight away and be proactive to get on the ball.

Discuss with players to recognise the risk and reward of keeping possession and going forwards, once they have completed the wide passes look at how the team can move the ball in order create the gaps to drive through.
