6(+6)v6 (20 mins)

Organisation

  • There are 2 in possession teams that have to keep the ball away from the out of possession teams
  • The out of possession team must win the ball. When they do they switch with whichever team was at fault for losing possession.
Coaching Points
  • Maximise the space being used
  • Create passing lanes - it is always 12v6 so there should always be plenty of open passing lanes available
  • Find new shape quickly when possession turns over
  • Can we dictate the speed of play? Play quickly away from pressure, but slow things down when necessary
Progression
  • Each team has 3 lives, if they are out of possession and the other team successfully completes 10 passes they lose a life. The team that loses all 3 lives first must complete a punishment.

Over the River (6 per team) (25 mins)

Organisation

  • The blue team must make a minimum of two passes between each other and then look to transfer the ball. White do the same thing.
  • Yellow must have two players press and the other 4 stay in the middle channel
  • Yellow must win the ball and play it to a team mate in the middle, if they do this successfully they switch with the side they won the ball off
  • If the ball is intercepted in the channel they also switch.
Coaching Points
  • Dictate speed of play. When do we need to move the ball quick and when can we slow it down?
  • Can we move cleverly and sharply to get away from the pressing defenders and create passing lanes
  • Can we switch at the earliest opportunity but being careful not to force it?

Progressions

  • Add to the number of pressing players - the higher the pressure, the faster we have to move the ball!
  • Add to the number of passes needed before switching

5v5(+1) Murder Ball with Permanant GK (25 mins)

Organisation

  • Regular 5v5(+1) scrimmage to goals
  • If the ball goes out the coach throws a new ball in and play starts immediately
  • The team on the outside must go and get the ball and get it back to the coach. The coach only has 3 balls, if at any point they run out there is a punishment for all players
  • Once a goal is scored, the team that scored it get the same ball out of the goal and attack the other side. The team that conceded are off and must complete a full sprint lap of the field being played on. The team that was off comes on to play.
Coaching Points
  • Maximise the space being used
  • Create passing lanes - can we move quickly and sharply to create passing opportunities?
  • Find new shape quickly when possession turns over
  • Can we dictate the speed of play? Play quick away from pressure, but slow things down when necessary
  • The game because quick and frantic - important we keep our composure in these situations.
  • Neutral means the in possession team always has numbers up - can we utilise that to retain possession?
