Learning Activity: Game Form
Activity Objective: To teach players to provide vertical passing options and get into an attacking shape when building out of defensive half using the 4,2,3 and 6 and goalkeeper has secured the ball.
Number of players/opponent: 12 players
Size/Shape of Field: 35x55 yards
Methods of Scoring: Attacking team scores 1 point by playing to one target (goalkeeper or 4) and transferring the ball to other target. 2 points if they transfer ball from target to target and play through the midfielders. Defending team can score on either goal if they win the ball.
Total Activity Duration: 28 minutes
Active Duration: Rest Duration - 5 minutes, 2 minutes rest
Number of Sets: 4
Activity Rules: Balls restart from coach playing to goalkeeper/target. 2,3,4,1 are restricted to their zones. 6 and 8 can move anywhere, but only 1 can enter each end zone at a time. Defenders can move anywhere.
Additional Restraints/Constraints/Restrictions/Rewards:
Formation & Player Roles: 1-2-2-3
Rotations (substitutions): Rotate defending team every round.
COACHING INTERACTIONS:
1. WHAT: How do we know when to move into an attacking shape? (When our team secures possession of the ball)
WHEN: After first round of play.
HOW: Guided question. Show how they can create height, width and depth.
2. WHAT: Where can the 6 and 8 move to provide diagonal passing options from back line?
WHEN: Freeze moment in 2nd or 3rd round.
HOW: SHOW when 4 has the ball and the 6 dropping to create a diagonal passing option from 4. SHOW when 2 or 3 has the ball with no space and the 6 dropping central to create a diagonal passing option. SHOW 8 providing a diagonal passing option from 6.
3. WHAT: How do you know when to play forward? (when you have time and space with the ball and an option to play forward.)
WHEN: Use key words "time and space" to cue the players to look to play forward. In between rounds.
HOW: Guided questions.

Activity Rules: Normal 6v6 game. All restarts from goalkeeper or 4 for defending team.

Formation & Player Roles: 1-3-2 vs 1-2-3
Rotations (substitutions): Rotate players after 2 rounds so players learn different positions.
COACHING INTERACTIONS:
1. WHAT: When building from the goalkeeper, if the 4 is in the half space in attacking shape and ball is played to them, where should the 3 be? (shifted in to other half space to deny counter attack if we lose it)
WHEN: After first round of play.
HOW: Freeze moment and SHOW.

Activity Objective: To teach players to provide vertical passing options.

Size/Shape of Field: 8x8 yards
Methods of Scoring: Attacking team scores by completing 8-10 passes, Defender scores by dribbling out of bounds under control.
Total Activity Duration: 14 minutes
Active Duration: Rest Duration - 1 minute, 45 seconds rest
Number of Sets: 8
Activity Rules: Place balls around outside of grid for quick restarts. Attacking team tries to complete 8-10 passes for a point and defender tries to win the ball to dribble out of bounds under control for a point. Defender stays in for 1 minute. Switch defender every round.
Additional Restraints/Constraints/Restrictions/Rewards: Attacking team must take 2 touches minimum.
Formation & Player Roles: n/a
Rotations (substitutions): Rotate defender every round.
COACHING INTERACTIONS:
1. WHAT: How can we provide two options for our teammate on the ball?
WHEN: In between rounds 1 and 2.
HOW: Ask the question, then SHOW by placing the ball at one player's feet and having the players move to provide diagonal passing options.
2. WHAT: How can we make sure when we receive the ball we know where our next option is and where the defender is?
WHEN: In between rounds 2 and 3.
HOW: Ask the question, then SHOW what it looks like to scan and open their body shape.
