AIM: To improve the teams ability to effectively move the ball from our own defensive third into the middle and/or attacking third.

Rondo - 3v1 (15 mins)

FIELD DIMENSIONS: 8x8 yards   

# OF PLAYERS: 4 (3V1)

TIME: 10 Minutes.  Ratio: 60 Seconds / 30 Seconds (x5)  

ORGANIZATION & CONDITIONS:

If defending player wins ball (or attacking player kick ball out), players switch roles.

Attacking players must take 2 touches (2 touch max).

Functional (20 mins)

FIELD DIMENSIONS: 15x22 yards (with mini goals at either end).   

# OF PLAYERS: 4 (2V2)

TIME: 12 Minutes.  Ratio: 2 minutes / 1 minute (x4)  

ORGANIZATION & CONDITIONS:

Team in possession aim to score in oppositions goal.  

One Player from the attacking team is allowed to drop into defensive half.

Defending players cannot cross half line.  

One defender for attacking team can cross half line when team has ball.

Ball cannot be dribbled into half - must be a pass.  

Guided Questions (Defensive team):

1. How can you prevent opposition team from play through? (Shape & Communication)

2. What about your communication? (Specific & Communication)

Guided Questions (Offensive Team):

1. How can you create space for your self and team? (Start high and wide, then come back)   

2. How can we hurt opposition? (Find the gaps/mobility & timing. opposite forward stay high to stretch back line)  

3. What should you do before receiving the ball?  (ABC's - ANGLE of support / BODY shape when receiving / CHECK shoulder)

Phase (25 mins)

FIELD DIMENSIONS: 50x70 yards (with large goal & end zone with target player).  

Field is split into thirds (with an End Zone in attacking third).  

TOTAL PLAYERS: 18 (9v8 + Target).

Blue team formation: GK-4-3-1 / Red team formation: 2-3-1

TIME: 24 Minutes. Ratio: 5 minutes / 1 minute (x4)  

ORGANIZATION & CONDITIONS:

Black team must be in attacking third to score / pass to target player.

Defending players must stay in their designate third of the field.

One attacking player can move zones. (#6 can drop into defensice zone to create numbers up).

PROGRESSIONS:

Ball must be passed into next zone / players cannot dribble into next zone.

Players can dribble into next zone

NOTES: Ensure defending team is defending properly.    

1. Forwards squeeze high / press player on ball.    

2. Forwards force centrally / Make play predictable. 

3. Midfield players get tight / deny passing lanes.   

4. Defenders push up / reduce space between lines.

Guided Questions

1. What is our team shape (shape of back four) when #1 has possession of the ball? (#2/#3 get high & wide, #4/#5 drop deep).   

2. How many options should player on the ball have? (3, Angles of Support)   

3. How can you free yourself up from marking?
