Organisation
Create a hexagon around the centre cirle as illustrated.
Place 8 blue players around the cente circle; 3 red players within the centre circle and 6 red players on the edge of the hexagon.
8 blue players must attempt to retain possession, by passing to each other across the centre circle, but must not enter inside the centre circle. The 3 red players must try to win the ball.
If the red team win the ball, they must try to retain possession of the ball by passing the ball to one of their team mates, who, as soon as the red team win possession of the ball, can now enter within the hexagon.
Play now takes place within the entire area of the hexagon, including the centre circle, with the reds in possession. The 3 red players in the centre circle must remain within the hexagon. This creates a 10 v 8 situation.
If the blue team gain possession, they return to the edge of the centre circle, with the 3 red players in the centre circle, and the blue team once again seek to retain possession. The remaining red players take up their positions on the edge iof the hexagon.
Coaching Points
1. This practice works on the strength of mobility of the blue players.
2. If a bad pass is played, but teh opposition do not win the ball, make sure the players react quickly and try to maintain possession.
3. Accurate passing. Movement ot create passing lines. Good decision making.
Progressions
1. Players are restricted to 2 touch only.
2. When in possession, 2 of the players in the centre circle can leave the centre circle, provided at least one red player remains within the centre circle.
