Setup:
20x20 yard square.
One player positioned on each side as receivers.
Inside the square: two teams of 3 players each (e.g., blues and reds), plus 1 neutral bounce player.
Blue team plays vertically (end-to-end), red team plays horizontally (side-to-side).
Objective:
Teams aim to transfer the ball from one designated end to the other through combination play.
Blues score a point for successful vertical transfers; reds for horizontal transfers.
Progression:
Unopposed phase: Teams work in their respective directions without interference.
Opposed phase: 1 ball in play, both teams compete to win and transfer the ball in their designated direction. Point scored each time a successful end-to-end transfer is made.
Technical Focus:
Passing Mechanics:
Plant foot beside the ball, pointing toward the target.
Locked ankle, strike through the center of the ball.
Pass with purpose and accuracy aim for back foot
Receiving Technique:
Be on your toes, ready to adjust.
Present a good surface (inside of foot) to control the ball.
Open body shape to receive and play forward quickly.
Aim to receive on the back foot when possible.
Tactical Focus:
Creating space: Use movement to create angles and passing lanes.
Teamwork and support play: One player drops short, another stretches long.
Play forward with intention: Can you play first-time? Can you turn quickly?
Coaching Points:
Open body position to see as much of the field as possible.
Shoulders pointing toward where you want to play.
Think ahead – can you help your teammate play forward with your pass?
Support movement off the ball to open new passing options.
Challenges:
For more advanced players: limit touches (1-2 touch play where appropriate).
Can you disguise your intentions with body shape or timing of pass?

Scoring by numbers (15 mins)
Setup:
Players dribble freely inside a 15x15 ft square (larger if needed). Each player is assigned a number (1–5 depending on group size), with two players per number—one on each team.
Ball Mastery Phase:
Players start by dribbling freely in the area, then move into focused ball mastery exercises:
Intervals of around 1 min.
Toe Taps: Emphasise quick feet, high number of touches, not distance. Encourage players to glance up while staying in control.
Inside Taps: Focus on light, controlled touches with knees slightly bent. Encourage head up and balance.
Inside-Outside Touches: Promote rhythm, balance, and use of both feet where possible.
Skill Focus – Stepover:
Introduce the skill of the month: the stepover. Players take one touch to set, step over the ball to fake, then push away in the opposite direction with the outside of the other foot.
Key coaching points:
Use body movement to sell the fake
Drop the shoulder and keep balance
Execute with speed after the move
Keep eyes up before and after
Game Element – Breakout to Score:
Coach calls a number. The two players with that number race out of the square and try to score in one of the two goals. First to score earns a point for their team.
Focus on:
Big, explosive touches out of the square using the laces/front of foot
Head up to identify goal and finish
Quick decision-making and acceleration
