6v6 Make It Take It
After playing two games of 3v3 Make It Take It, combine the games and play 6v6. Each team has two extra players on the end line who take turns playing in the next ball. All re-starts are triggered from the end lines (including "Make It Take It" if a goal is scored). When a player on the end line plays a ball in, they join the game (A) and one of the other players exits (B). This roatation provides all players an opportunity to rest.
Players will have multiple opportunities to practice checking back for the ball and receiving with a man on or recognizing the opportnity to turn. Defenders should track runs and try to deny the player the oppurtunity to turn.
Coaching Points:
Checking back: Time runs so the player receiving arrives when the ball arrives.
Shape run so as to receive sideways-on to either shield or turn. Look to lay off and "spin away" to open a channel for a through ball. Encourage attacking players to communicate "Turn" or "Hold" depending on pressure.
Defenders: should be encouraged to work very hard to prevent turns. Close space from behind without over-comiting. Get close enough to deal with a turn but not so close that you can get spun.
