Forward Diving:
Aim:
We should not really be doing this in block 4 but there is too many dives going backwards and we are forced to go through it again
Instructions:
The coach will serve the ball towards the cones, the GK is to dive forward to save the ball before it hits the cones
service: Ground & Mid
Coaching Points:
* The GK is looking for the trigger points and making effective forward dives
* The ball should be secured every time

Movement
Aim
To have the GK's making effective movement to be in front of the ball and catching or securing the ball
Instructions:
The GK starts in the centre of the goal and moves over to touch the marker with his feet, he then moves out in front of the ball to catch the service. The GK returns the bal to the coach and then gets off the ground to touch the marker and get in front of the ball again (x4)
There is no progression in this drill as we want the GK to be securing the ball.
Coaching points:
* The GK is securing the ball
* Short sharp feet
* Quick, effective movements
* Early eyes on the ball
* Watching the ball into his hands

Shot stopping - 1
Aim:
To have the GK making quick decisions in order to set for the shot
Instructions:
The coach starts being hidden by the mannequins, he takes a touch out to either side and shoots on goal. The GK is to act accordingly and get set early for the shot
Progression:
Another coach is added to have a passing element involved, this coach starts off behind a mannequin and go and meet the ball or fall off for the shot either side, again the GK will make to make effective movement to get in front of the ball and set for the shot.
Coaching points:
* Vision
* GK is looking for the triggers and setting early
* Balanced set position & diving forward

Shot stopping - 3
Only 2 groups can be used or main shooting drill at the end
Aim:
To have the GK starting to think by adding a distribution element
Instructions:
The GK is in the centre of his goal, The C starts with the ball behind the mannequins. He passes this out and the GK has to act on the movement of the ball and set for the shot form C2 who will use a 2 or more touch.
Having gathered the ball, the GK will distribute the ball to c3 who will control the ball & pass to c4 who will again control the ball and shoot on goal. (or Brian for the final shot)
Coaching points:
* GK is moving and setting early
* The distribution is good and to the feet of the coach
* GK is moving with short, sharp steps

Get Up:
Aim:
To find the quickest way of getting off the floor to your feet.
Instructions:
The GK's are to work in pairs are to replicate a variety of saves i.e. left, right, on their backs, on their fronts and to try and find out the quickest way to get back to their feet.
Once they have 5 minutes doing this and we discuss they will go away and do a 6 dives set (using each side)
Coaching Points:
The GK's should be trying to get a part of the body to help with the momentum of getting off the ground.
