Hockey Session Plan Drill (Colour): Variation 1

Variation 1 (15 mins)

6 Players on the inside of a square all with a ball, 4 players on the outside without.

Players on the inside look to play a pass to a player on the outside then receive a pass from an alternative player.

This can be varied in a few different ways

1 - Players must call their pass(try and increase communication)

2 - Players should call a different name for the pass

3 - Silence (Forces players to get their head up in possession and not just rely on the call)

Players should look to carry the ball in a position that allows them visibility but to also prescan where possible so they have an idea of what to do before receiving the ball

Players on the outside should walk around the outside of the square so they are not always in the same place.

Variation 2 (15 mins)

4 players on outside, approx 6 on inside with 3-4 balls.

Players on inside have to make 1 or 2 passes before the ball can be played to a player on the outside. Encourage players to communicate quickly to speed up interplay. Conditions based on number of passes or communication can also be included.

Players on the outside should slowly walk around the square so they are not always in the same position.
