POSSESSION (15 mins)

The Session: Possession 2.5 / 3 / 2 REST

Set Up:

6 v 6 + neutrals.

Grid size 8x10 per defender

Ball starts with neutral player on one end who plays ball in

When a goal is scored or ball goes out then restart play from the end with neutral player

Rotate wall passers every repetition

To score ball must be a wall pass to be played off one the end neutral players ( maximum 2 touch but try one touch)

TECHNICAL 1: Defending in units: Screening passes (10 mins)

The Session: Defending in units


Setup:

4 x 3mins with 1 mins rest

Setup a 20x20 square. See section sizes above.

Blue players are screening passes into the mini-goals. They can't leave their shaded zone, marked by flat discs.

Keeper will play ball into yellow team

If blue team win ball they can attempt to shoot immediately

Key messages:

- Screening the passes

- Distances between defenders

- One pressuring the ball, whilst one covers and another gives balance in case of a switch.

- In a switch, speed in transition to new position relative to the ball.

Progression:

- 4v4.

- Time Limit for attacking team

TECHNICAL 2: Defending Red Zone (15 mins)

THE SESSION: Defending 2v2  

3 MINS / 4 SETS / 2 MINS

Set-Up

- 2x lines either side of goal and 2x lines opposing

- Coach plays ball into 2x blue (attacking team) players once in possession 2x red players can enter pitch

- Defenders aim to keep blue team out of shaded area (red zone)

- If defenders gain possession they are able to finish in either mini goal

PROGRESSIONS:

- 3v3, 4v4 (if numbers permit)

- Coach plays in high ball for defender to head out of danger zone and then defend attacker who starts with ball (or alternatively coach can play attacking player to start)

- Goals for defenders if possession is gained

- Aggressive defending

SLICE OF THE GAME: 1 v 1 (25 mins)

THE SESSION: Slice of the game 1v1

Set-up:

- Main game played in central zone.

- Aim is for attacking player to dribble into a defenders zone to play 1v1 to try and score.

- If defender wins ball he can pass to his team to set up a attack (defenders gain points for winning ball back)

-Rotate player roles after set period of time
