POSSESSION GAME (15 mins)

Practice Objectives:

To improve our ability to keep possession in tight areas

To improve our ability to keep possession and provide positional support so that we can progress

Breaking the last line from central open ball positions to create scoring chances

Practice Explanation:

4v4+2 Positional possession game

The pitch has three zones. Scoring zones (Zone 1 and Zone 2) at either end, and Zone A which is the main playing space and where the play starts.

BLUE TEAM attacks towards Zone 1 and YELLOW Team plays the other way and attacks Zone 2

The team in possession can earn a point in two ways:
1) By connecting five passes inside Zone A
2) By playing a pass from Zone A in to a teammate who runs in behind the opposition defence into the end zone with the ball, before scoring into one of the two mini-goals.
A neutral player can run in behind from their wide channel

When a pass is played into Zone 1 or Zone 2, one defender can recover into the end zone, making a 1v1 situation. The attacker has five seconds to score.

BLUE and YELLOW players have no limit on their touches
Neutral (RED) players are limited to two touches

POSITIONING

In possession teams should use a 2-3-1 structure which the two neutral players (RED) play in the wide channels.
Out of possession, teams should use a 2-2 Box and a half structure; defenders can move into the wide channels to press the neutral players

Practice Timings:

4(3'30R) - Total 15mins
