Reigns development contains 4 meso cycles for the 2021-22 Fall & Spring season
each block is split into technical skill foundations which is then progressed into tactical group play
-each season we will establish technical skill foundations and focus on a third of field in order to improve penetrating the ball forward
Reign's team culture is based upon 3 values that each player is 100% in control of
-Commitment
-Effort
-Attitude

Reign's defensive principles are based on pressure & cover in order to get compact to deny penetration from dribble or pass
-players will prevent the opponent from playing forward or deny penetrating from dribble by recognizing visual clues on when to press
-always press in identified situations (head is down, bad touch, back is turned, bouncing ball & slow pass)
-1 player to pressure the ball and 2nd defender to provide cover
-players must get organized and compact as line when out possession
-defensive line moves as a unit

Reign will be guided on the roles of the 1st attacker and 2nd attacker when attacking with the ball
1st Attacker Role:
The primary role of the 1st attacker is penetration with the ball. If space is available the first attacker must decide the quickest route to goal by the following options
Dribbling- if there is space between the attacker and the goal can it be exploited by small/big touches
Passing- the ball will always move faster than any player on the field. The 1st attacker should always be aware of teammates in order to combine and penetrate the ball towards goal.
Shooting- When in possession of the ball the objective is to always score a goal. The 1st attacker should always asses first wether a shot on goal is possible.
2nd Attacker Role:
The primary role of the 2nd attacker is to provide immediate support to the 1st attacker by providing length, width or depth relative to the ball, teammate & pressure.
Angle & Distance to support: A 2nd attacker must always ensure a good position to receive the ball from the 1st attacker in order to provide support
Communication: inform the 1st attacker if there is pressure or demand the ball if 2nd attacker is an advantageous position
Off the ball movement: create space as an individual to receive the ball for the first attacker
Length- give a vertical passing lane in the middle/final third of the field
Width- stretch the field by staying near the wide area of the field
Depth- provide support behind the ball in order to keep possession or switch the point of attack
the mission is to teach roles & principles of the game in order to improve decision making on the ball

Reign attacking principles are based on the 1st attacker and 2nd attacker roles
1st attacker main role is to get the ball forward by getting behind defenders, maintain possession and taking risks
2nd attacker main role is to support the 1st attacker by providing support to ensure possession and combine to penetrate the ball forward or switch the point of attack
-combination play (1-2's, wall passes, overlaps, killer passes (through balls)
-1st attacker should have an attacking mentality of always bringing the ball forward if there is space available
-hold the ball if space is congested in order to switch the point of attack
-create 1v1 or 2v1 overloads
-utilize space and triangulate to create passing options
-create diagonal passing lines
-vary types of runs to get behind/between the defensive block

Reign's defensive principles are based on pressure (1st defender) & cover (2nd defender) in order to work as a line to get compact and organized when out of possession of the ball
1st defender role is to pressure the player on the ball and delay the attacking player by denying penetration
2nd defender role is to assist the 1st defender by providing cover in order to deny penetration in case 1st defender gets beaten
-players will prevent the opponent from playing forward or deny penetrating from dribble by recognize visual clues
-always press in identified situations (head is down, bad touch, back is turned, bouncing ball & slow pass)
-1 player to pressure the ball 2nd defender to provide cover
-players must get organized and balanced when out of possession
-defensive line moves as a unit

Reign midfield support is based on possession to pass or dribble forward in order to create chances in the final third (attacking third)
this will be accomplished by
-spreading out
-utilize space and triangulate to create passing options
-supporting the attack
-combination play such as wall passes, 1-2's (give & go) overlaps & through balls
-creating overloads in the middle third such as 2v1's, 3v2s etc
-creating diagonal passing lines
-penetrate with a killer pass, passing wide or maintaining possession with short passes to gain momentum

Reign Attacking Formation
Reign's attacking philosophy is based on attacking space when in possession of the ball through combination play and creating triangles/diamonds to support the player on the ball (1st attacker)
Variation: 1-3-3-2
Width
-wide players (#2,#3,#7,#11) will be encouraged to hug the line to create diagonal passing lines
-if there is a lot of traffic one side of the field players will be encouraged to be disciplined and stay in the less congested side in order to switch the play
-wide players must be ready to receive the ball with an open body shape in order to penetrate with their first touch
-Depth
-when in possession the second closest player to to the ball (2nd attacker) must provide immediate support to the player on the ball
-2nd attacker must check in to create a passing lane to ensure possession
Length
-forwards and midfielders will be encouraged to have an open body shape in order to penetrate forward
-if possible player on the ball will be encouraged to play a killer pass (penetrating through ball) and skip the midfield to play directly to the Forward (#9)
-players will be encouraged to vary the type of runs in order to get behind/between defensive lines
