Exploit space in midfield to create overloads in final third (10 mins)
ORGANISATION:
Attacking Players = Blacks - representing a 1/4/3/3 formation.
3v2 in the square.
The objective for the Blacks is to create space, exploit the space with passes ball to either Winger or Central Striker and then one Central Midfield player can join in, to make it a 4v3 overload to try to score.
Defending Players = Reds - representing 1/3/5/2 formation
The objective for the reds is to win the ball back and score in the mini-goals in 6 seconds.
Principles:
Find Spare man
2v1’s – 3v2’s
Central 4v3
Sub-Principles:
Press quickly or protect the middle
Leave the furthest man
Blocks & timings:
2 minutes – introduction and walkthrough.
Block 1 – 3 min – Concurrent feedback,
Terminal 1: 60 seconds - Introduce Midfield combinations in the buildout as another way of creating overloads.
Block 2: 2 min – Concurrent feedback – Watch for the coaching process.
Terminal 2: 90 seconds Team meeting, stress on principles.
Block 4: 30 - Concurrent Feedback.
What, how, when, who,?
Who: Central Defenders.
When: Overload is exploited
How: 6,8,10 can dribble/pass out of the box and create an overload.
Why: To create overloads and create scoring opportunities
Coaching Points
Possible Key Points: ATTACKING Central Midfielders & Front 3
1. Create space - wide and long in the square
2. The movement to receive the ball in the square
3. Quality of pass to either 7/9/11 - exploit space downsides or through the middle of the pitch
4. 6,8,10 join in with an aggressive approach on/off the ball
5. Creating crossing opportunities/exploiting the middle with RWTB/dribbling to score.
6. Observe defending players - try to put the ball into space/gaps to exploit defenders position
