Individual Defensive Warm-up:
Players partner up with one ball. Player with ball dribbles the ball in zig zag motion, forcing their partner to work on a side on shape keeping the player in front of them. This term is called "delay". Player work on that 3-4 times each, with each time the dribbler going a little quicker. The defender just needs to keep the attacker in front of them.
Progression (competition): Ladder format.
i. Defender now plays a driven ball to attacker and closes down quickly. (Fast to slow, High to Low). They are preventing the attacker from dirbbling across the endline. Switch roles after play is done.
- Keep score. Winning player moves up. Losing player stays.
Coaching Points:
Delay, Fast to Slow + High to Low, Side on (never flat or square).
