Handling & movements warm up

Instructions:

Start Position: Goalkeeper begins set at the cone in line with Feeder A.

Feed A: Feeder A delivers a volley for the goalkeeper to catch using a 'W' hand shape.

Movement to Feed B: Goalkeeper quickly takes a lateral side step to their left or right to get in line with Feeder B. Feeder B delivers the second volley for a W catch.

Movement to Feed C: Goalkeeper turns their head, adjusts quickly, and sets to face Feeder C, who delivers the third volley.

Movement to Feed D: Goalkeeper then turns and sprints toward the final cone & sets quickly in front of Feeder D to make the fourth W catch.

Rotation:

  • If goalkeepers move quickly, complete 2 sets (8 total catches) before rotating.
  • Rotation Order: After the set is complete, the goalkeeper moves to Feeder D’s position, and all feeders rotate anticlockwise.
  • Once all Goalkeepers have been in goal repeat the opposite way starting at Feeder B & moving clockwise through the drill & rotation.

Coaching Points:

Emphasize a strong, secure W-hand shape for catches.

Maintain balance and stay light on the feet during lateral movements.

Quick movements into sharp set positions between each feed is crucial.

Diving Drill

Drill 2: 4 Low Dives

Objective: Improve low-diving saves and quick recovery from diving saves between movements.

Setup: 4 feeders (A, B, C, D) placed around a central cone with additional cones marking dive points.

Instructions:

  • Start Position: Goalkeeper sets in between the 2 front cones in between Feeder A & B.
  • Feed B: Goalkeeper touches the cone to their right, then dives low to the left to save a low feed from Feeder B.
  • Turn and Set: The goalkeeper quickly turns to face Feeder C, touches the cone to their left
  • Feed C: Feeder C delivers a low feed, prompting the goalkeeper to dive low to the right to make the save.
  • Opposite Side Sequence:
    • Goalkeeper then side steps across from Feeder B to Feeder A.
    • Feeder A delivers a low feed to the right, requiring a low diving save.
    • The goalkeeper then turns and touches the back-right cone before Feeder D plays a low feed to the goalkeeper’s left.

Coaching Points:

  • Strong push off from the planted leg when diving.
  • Secure the ball by bringing it into the chest on low saves.
  • Quick recovery after each save to prepare for the next feed.
  • Controlled, efficient movement when turning or shifting positions.
  • No running, movements should all be short, sharp side steps.
