Warm-up/Activator (20 mins)

Organization:

Each player as a pinnie, all players inside the area marked by the Red Cones( Size of area determined by number of players, space, temperature etc. Adjust as needed based upon conditions on Tuesday)

Instructions:

• Attackers have a pinnie in their shorts (pinnie must be on the right or the left side and must hang down to at least the knee)

• Defenders start with out a pinnie

• When the defender pulls out an atackers pinnie they become the attacker.

• Each player Starts with 10 points, they lose a point if their pinnie gets pulled

• The goal is to finish the game with as many points as possible

Coaching Points/Guided Questions:

1) Identifying gaps in defense to penetrate

2) Identifying defenders position

3) Recognize how to protect the pinnie-(Position the body in between the ball and opponent)

Q1) How can you keep from being tagged?

Q2) Who/What do you have to look out for?

Q3) Can you do well if you change direction? and Speed?

Organization:

• Use same area as previous Activity

• Every player has a ball

Instructions:

PART I (Messi and Ronaldo Touches)

• Players asked to dribble around area

• How fast can you get to 50 touches (See who solves this in an interesting way)

• Introduce messi touches-pinky toe dribbling, kneed bent and over the ball, touching the ball every step

• Players trying to find gaps between other players

• Each player starts with 10 points

• They lose a point if:

-they run into another player or coach,

-they lose control of their ball out of the area

Coaching Points/Guided Questions:

1) Touch every step, pinky toe, head up - when defenders are close(MESSI TOUCHES)

2) Big touches in space, head up after every touch, take ball in stride (when space is available) (RONALDO TOUCHES)

3) WHEN, HOW - to penetrate between defenders

Q1) What type of dribbling can you use if you are in a space with oterh people around you?

Q2) What type of dribbling can you use if you have a lot of space?

Q3) Where should you look when you are dribbling? Why?

Q4) Who should you be looking out for?

Progressions:

P-If you penetrate the gaps between players 10 times without losing a point you get a point back

Fully-Opposed (20 mins)

Organization:

• 1 Ball per player

• 1,2, or 3 players without a ball to be defenders (hold pinnie in hand)

Instructions:

• Players with a ball attempt to dribble around in the area, maintaining control of their ball and preventing the defending players from stealing it or knocking it away

• Defending players (players holding a pinnie) attempt to steal the ball from one of the players in possession and score at any of the goals on the outside

• If the defending player steals the ball and scores, they give the pinnie to the player who they stole the ball from to become the new defender, they then retrieve the ball they scored and enter the

game as a dribbler

• If the defending player steals the ball but does not score, either because they miss the goal or because the opposing player stole it back, then they continue to play as the defender and attempt to

steal someone else's ball

Coaching Points/Guided Questions:

1) Keeping ball close

2) Finding the gaps

3) Size and direction of touches get through gaps

4) Awareness of space and position of the defender turning if gap is to small or to escape pressure

5) Defenders-when they win the ball can they find the spaces and gaps to penetrate and score a goal

Knock out (Fully Opposed) (20 mins)

Organization:

Same as previous

Instructions:

• Same as previous activity but players are attempting to knock the other players soccer balls out of the area

• Each player starts with 3 points, if their ball gets knocked out they lose 1 point, once a player gets down to zero points they put their ball in the safe zone and play only defender

• In order to come back into the game the player must perfrom ball mastery

-toe taps (basic)

-continuous scissors (advanced)

World Cup (20 mins)

Organization:

Same set up as all previous activites

Instructions:

• Players number themselves in their teams 1 through 3 or 1 through 4 depending upon numbers

• Coach calls out a number and the player matching that number (one player from each team) plays 1v1v1v1 for the live ball.

• The four players playing (1 from each team) ae each trying to score on any of the other teams' goals. • Once a team is scored on 3 times they must flip their goal upside down, they can no longer win the WC but still play each roound, to help knock out the other teams

• The last team with their goal upright is the winning team.

1) Identifying defenders position

Free Play/Scrimmage (20 mins)

Organization:

3 vs 3 or 4v4 with two fields playing, ensure there is a buffer zone between the two fields

No GK's

Instructions:

• Minimal coaching, applaud ,cheer and recognize moments when players choose the corect dribbling technique-Tight touvhes to protect the ball or longer touches when they recognize spaces

• Free play

• Players organized in a 2-1 or 1-2 to allow ample spaces for running with the ball and penetrating using the dribble.

• Restarts

-All restarts are a dribble in or a pass, restarts count as a direct kick

Coaching Points/Guided Questions:

1) Recognizing moments to penetrate

2) Creating traingle as big as possible (width/length/depth) to help create gaps to penetrate

3) Encourage players who find and exploit gaps in between defenders
