Method: Coaching the reds to build-up possession to create good attacking combinations in the final third. Reds play formation 1-2-3-3 (no FB's) against blues playing 1-4-3-1 (no wingers)

Coaching Points:

  • Opposition establish low block and deep line of engagement
  • GK starts playing out with good pass to the front foot moving forward
  • 2 CB's create width to receive pass and CDM #6 drops deep to provide option
  • 2 WA's #7,11 provide width, high up pitch to pin back blue FB's
  • CA #9 provides depth, high up pitch between opposition CB's
  • CM and CAM #6,8 with good angle of support and distance to create space centrally

Method:   Looking for intelligent movement off the ball from the midfield and forward players to get 4/5 players in around the penalty box when we have the ball in the final third

Coaching Points:

  • WA #7,11 maintain width to receive the ball high up the pitch
  • CM and CAM #8,10 finding pockets of space in between opposition midfield and defence to engage defenders
  • CA #9 occupies opposition CB's as high up the pitch as possible, making themselves available to receive the ball to feet
  • CM and CAM #8,10 support WA #7,11 to create 2v1 vs opposition FB's
  • After ball is received by CA #9, can CM #8, 10 and WA's #7,11 attack space behind opposition Defenders to provide options to break the line via 3rd man runs
  • CB and CDM #6 maintain good positions and awareness for T2D
