Speed drills 2 (30 mins)

Session Objective: To improve speed

Organisation:Two lines of players, 2 lines of balls set out in 3s in front of line.Balls numbered 1,2,3.Coach shouts out ball.Players perform variety of speed drills.

a)Ball number shouted out.Player sprints to ball and returns to line.Vary number called.Vary required number of shuttleruns.

Extension .Add second line of balls and add a variety of extra shufflr runs,as indicated by red lines.

b)As above but last run is past ball to spot twenty yards ahead.

c)Numbers shouted."1.3,2".player runs to1,moves sideways to 3,back across to 2, then sprints to end.vary numbers,repesat numbers etc different for each player.

d)a As c but player shuttles back to start after each ball.

Passing/Receiving (25 mins)

Session Objective: Receving

Organisation: 4 lanes 30 yards long (split at 15 yards) 6 yards wide. Players stationed at A, B, C, E, F, H, I, K, L. excess players have a ball each and wai at zone A (start). Zones D, G & J left empty to begin with.

1. drill commences with player at zone A, passing to Zone B, who receives and passes to player at Zone C, (each player to follow pass and move onto the next zone). the player at Zone C's first touch is to to take them to zone D (which is empty) and pass to player at Zone E. who receives and passes to player at Zone F, whose first touch takes him to G. and so on until the ball is played to player at Zone L, who on receiving of pass goes and starts the cycle again at A.

each player goes on each zone once.

when the player on Zone C goes to Zone D, a new ball starts at A at the same ti, so eventully there is 4/5 footballs moving at the same time.

Progressions

2. players in the middle zones (B, E, H, K) move to ether side on the half turn and receive on the furthest foot.

3. players in the middle zones come short to receive (moving off the cone) and play a longer pass.

4. players in the middle zones alternate coming short to receive long, or going long to receive short (moving off the cone)

5. Introduce 1 2's so A plays to B who sets athe ball back to A, and spins round to play a 1 2 with C whilst they move to D.

Fun passing drills (20 mins)

Session Objective: Fun Pasing drill

Organisation: 20 x 20 yard square,equal number of players on each corner.

Two rules: players always run clockwise around square.

pass the ball in direction of run of player who passes you the ball!!!!!!!!!!!

1 plays ball to 3 (pass A)and runs to 2. 3 plays ball to 2(i.e. to where 1 has run to ,pass B ) and runs clockwise to 4.Next pass (c) goes to 4 (where 3 has run to) and so on

Extension. Limit to two touch then one.

reduce area-move square to 5 yards square and play one touch!!

Key Factors:

Quality of touch to receive.

Quality and timing of pass.

Awareness to watch players run.

Basic passing drills (15 mins)

Session Objective: Speed Drill

Organisation: 20 x 20 yard square, 4 yard squares in each corner with a flag/cone about 5-8 yards (depending on age/standard/fitness of players)

1. without the ball, one at a time player sprints through the line and the next player goes

2. two at a time

3. with the ball player moves with the ball and stops it for next player to go

4. two at a time

5. one player at a time, stops the ball then sprints round the flag/cone and tries to tag next player who aims not to be caught.

possession and quick reaction (30 mins)

Session Objective:possession and quick shooting on transition.

Organisation: One team overloaded(Blue).Blue must make five passes before trying to pass and run ball over line between either set of poles.Yellow if they win ball make 3 passes then try to get shot at goal.There is no goalkeeper.

Create space before and after receiving ball.

Awareness-head up.

Play and look to receive back.

Running directly with ball into space.
