Aim:
- THEY 1-2-3 How to defend against a 1-4-3-1
- Teaching individual pressure options by 7/9/11 in THEY 1-2
Organization:
- 40 wide by 70 long field
- As many players as possible on the field based on numbers - key players are (1, 2, 3, 5) for yellow, and (7/9/11) for gray.
- Opponent keeper plays ball out to 2/3/5
- When they play out have the 7/9/11 (respective player to the defender on the ball) pressure in three different ways (forcing them outside, forcing them inside, and going straight at them), and correct their pressure
- Repeat with each play until they understand
- One half of U12 DA is doing this (10-12 players), other half is going over video session with Kevin Thorsen
- Once video is finished swap
Coaching Points:
- Starting position to be able to adjust to where the ball is played
- Curving run to pressure the ball and force them one way
- Not diving in, knowing they don't need to win the ball but only make them predictable
- Other players adjusting based on the pressure on the ball
Progressions / Variations:
- Adjust opponent to 1-4-3-1 system
- Instead of only playing to 1 player, pressing, and then restarting, let it continue until ball is played forwards or lost
