Setup: 4 10-yd squares. 6 blues vs 4 red. 1 ball.
Game: Blue is on offense. Rules: Maximum of 3 offensive players (blue) in a square at any time, but always has to be 1 in each square. Maximum of 2 defensive players (red) in a square at any time. Other reds balance field in other squares looking to intercept. Blues attempt to keep possession under pressure. Reds try to press with front 2 players, while back 2 reds look for pressing cues to step in and intercept long pass.
Progression 1: play 2 touch
Progression 2: If reds intercept, they can score on mini-goals
Progression 3: play 4v4 plus 2; work on pressing in transition
Scoring/Duration: Blues score if they can reach target number of passes (7-10). Reds can score on mingoals (optional).
Coaching:
- Can the pressers force the blues into predictable play? Force them to corner or towards a square that back players can read. Only allow 1 option that makes it easy to intercept.
- Off ball defenders need to read play to determine where to step
- Attackers need to keep ball moving by taking first touch around defender or 1 to 2 touch play. Open up to new targets. Keep playing to new areas to disallow being trapped.

Setup: 5 gates across the middle. Make sure the middle gate is different color (yellow).
Game: Progression 1: Red starts with ball in the back. They attempt to pass the ball (2 touch play) and work it around to get through gates. Red can freely change positions (attempt to play 2-4). Blue front 4 shift positioning together to prevent penetration of gates or passes to attacker near them. No pressing yet. If Red gets through a gate, they pass to the back to blue players and then game continues going the opposite direction.
Progression 2: Defense front 4 can choose moments to press forward on the ball. The back 2 can now fill gaps behind them to prevent pass forward (learning to take pressing cues from the front players.)
Progression 3: Use center goal as a half line marker. Offensive players pass but look to play long ball (from one half to the other) to try to catch defense unaware and score on red gates. Defense looks for pressing cue to step and intercept pass.
Progression 4: Can Counter to a goal if ball won on defense.
Scoring/Duration: Defense gets a point if they win the ball or keep offense from scoring after # of passes (10-15). Offense scores a point by working through gates before maximum number of passes.

Setup: Length adjustable. Half field setup above. Full width. Clearly mark 3 zones. 6v6 with keepers. Offense plays in 3-2-1 shape. Defense playes in a 1-3-2 shape or 3-2-1 (to assimilate 4-3-3).
Game: Blue starts with ball from keeper and attempts to score on opposite goal. Red tries to press as a team without allowing blue through each zone. Red is trying to win the ball in the highest pressing zone possible. If they win ball, play it back to blue keeper (Advance to shot on goal option). Always start from keeper. Blue can be offsides in zone 1.
Scoring/Duration: If Red wins the ball in zone 3 = 3 pts. If they win in zone 2 = 2pts. Zone 1 = 1pt. If blue scores, their goal is worth all the points of the zones they worked through (i.e. 2 zones = 5 pts, all zones = 6pts). If using counter attack, then defense gets an extra 2 pts for a goal. Play to 15 and switch attack/defense.
Coaching:
- Force them to play longer balls or make mistake. No short passes.
- Force them into a trap in corner or sideline when available.
- Don't press so hard that we leave gaps
- Move as a defensive unit. Forward together and side to side.

Passing/Pressure Warmup
Setup: Diamond of cones. 2 per cone. 1 ball
Game: Progression 1: Every player passes to a line and sprints up and breaks down to simulate pressure to the opponent. 2 touch passing. Player receiving ball continues play and follows in same manner. Players simply go to back of line. Never pass to same line twice.
Progression 2: After passing, player tries to pressure to one side and force play to the other side. 2 pts to passer if they play pass to the chosen side. all other passes 1 pt. play for 2 min.
Progression 3: Player passes and moves to the line to their right in an arced run. Pressure comes from the line to the left of the receiver. Awareness game.
