Warmup (15 mins)

2 Parts of Warmup: -

Initially start with dynamic stretching and

PART 1: - PASSING PATTERN

Description: -

Players need to pass the ball as shown above but over bigger distances compared to usual.

Challenges, Conditions or Targets:

Players can only use weak foot to pass, receive and dribble.

Time: -  2 min blocks x 3

Coaching Points: -

  • Weight of Pass i.e., slow for layoff and hard for player to receive and pass or dribble

  • Central Player's timing of movement to drop to layoff, (Check forward and then drop when possessor looks up)
  • Accuracy of pass, on the foot which helps next action
  • Touch tight receive, receive which allows to perform next action immediately
PART 2: - EXTENSIVE WARMUP

Description: -
Players need to sprint 50 m (max length available) with 3 sections.

5 m for jog, 10 m to accelerate and remaining to sprint at 80% max.

Then players need to jog back to starting point and go again for a total of 4 times

Perform part 1 and 2 continuously without break for 3 times

Learning Objectives

Technical Technical
Passing, Finishing
Technical Tactical
Timing of runs
Technical Physical
Extensive i.e., aerobic
Technical Psychological
Push yourself beyond breaking point
Technical Social
Communication both verbal and non verbal as well as points (whole group divided into 2 teams and each group has a captain to count points)

Technical (20 mins)

Description: - Players in groups of 3 with passing pattern as shown but a penetrative pass involved with passes going beyond the defense line and then scoring against the goalkeeper. After scoring players need to return back in 3 secs

Blocks: - 3 blocks of 4 mins with 2 min rest (2:1 work rest ratio)

Variations: -  Player first passes to the right in the 1st block and then towards left. In the 3rd Block, same 3 players first go right, sprint back and then go left

Theory: - In a game players run at max 80 m at once, Hence in the 3rd block players do run 80m i.e. 40m x 2 (Ocean park ground is small)

Coaching Points: -

  • Timing of Runs, when the player who is going to play the penetrative pass is about to make the pass, the runner needs to start accelerating and be on the shoulder of the defense line (Similar to extensive warmup )
  • When running, body shape to see both the ball possessor and defense line initially to time run appropriately. Once pass is played sprint straight
  • Once behind the defense line, take time if needed to score

Questions: -

  • What can you do to move away from the defender?
  • How can you position your body?
  • Which foot should you receive on?
  • Where should your touch go?
  • Where should you look while receiving?

Learning Objectives

Technical Technical
Movement, Finishing
Technical Tactical
Defend in numerical inferiority, timing of runs and combinations
Technical Physical
Extensive i.e., aerobic
Technical Psychological
Push yourself beyond breaking point
Technical Social
Communication both verbal and non verbal as well as points (whole group divided into 2 teams and each group has a captain to count points)

SSG (15 mins)

Description: - 2 v 2 with the coach serving the ball inside and both players sprinting into the shaded area shown in the center. Area acts as the offside line for both teams. One team scores in the big goal and the other in target goals (only 1 GK available).

Coach plays 2 balls, if blue team scores or takes a shot then ball played to red team whilst creating more transition situations and 1 v 2 situations. This is to force players to be involved for around 12 to 14 secs (average is 8 secs)

Blocks: - 2 min work and 2 mins rest x 4 (1:1 ratio)

Coaching Points: -

  • Runs into space and timing of runs
  • Body shape of the runner to see both ball and defender
  • Dealing with numerical inferiority in defense i.e., delay the action as much as possible and force play to player with less angle at goal

Progression: - Players need to shoot first time

Variation: - Players only allowed to use inside foot to work the goalkeeper

Blocks: - 2 mins x 3 with 1 min rest ( 2 : 1 ratio as intensity is less)

Coaching Points: -

  • Players while running need to look at the possessor and defense line

  • Time your run to avoid being offside

  • While 1 v 1 with GK, look at the goalkeeper and avoid looking at the ball to always be ready to react to GK's movement
