Description

This activity can be used to paint many different pictures for the GK in and around the 18 yard box. It can help the GK recognize the chaos of 1v1 situations and prepare them to deal with those situations in matches.

Session Organization:

  • make a 24 by 24 yard square
  • Make teams of 3v3 or 4v4 depending on numbers.
  • Each team has two GKs and two field players
  • You can either play a certain number of balls in or 2 minute games, then rotate GKs
  • coach plays ball in to any player and play begins. Circles are trying to score on triangle's goal and vice versa. 
  • When the ball goes out or there is a goal, play restarts with coach quickly
  • when the GK collects the ball, they are allowed to put the ball down and shoot
  • the team who scored the most goals wins.

Coaching Points:

  • Stay on the ball line
  • don't give up too much depth
  • move cross goal quickly to track the ball
  • Recognize and anticipate 1v1 situations quickly and react accordingly.
