Defending with a Back 3, WBs, #4 (45 mins)

Organisation

Keeper + 3 central + 2 wide players. Floater plays for defensive team.

Out of possession set up as keeper - Back 3 - WBs - Floater as #4

In possession #9/10 - WM - 2CM(keeper play as CM) - as shown above

Goals at both ends. wide areas marked off.

Initial conditions -

Wide players stay in wide areas in possession.

out of possession wide players can only tuck in when ball in far wide area.

Can only score in penalty areas (makes in possession move ball around rather than shoot to work the out of possession side.)

If floater wins ball, shoot at goal, to create turnover so can change teams, also has some reward for regaining possession, and incentive to defend properly.

Coaching Points

Ball central, WB narrow off to avoid split pass in behind. Use wide area line as guide, narrow off to line.

Ball goes wide, WB press, back 3, shuffle, WB to tuck in to defend back post

#4 to screen ball from midfield in to #9/10

What If?

If central CB drawn out to press ball, WCB to narrow off behind to cover. (triangle Shape)

If WCB out to press, cover and balance of CBs, dog leg.

Remove conditions - becomes free play

What if -

WCB drawn in to midfield to press ball. WB can tuck in behind to, narrow and drop off. Protect the bigger danger, allow WM to receive wide infront. can press and WCB drop back in.

Split pass between WB WCB, for WM. WCB press, angle of recovery run for WB to get in behgind and cover, rather than drawn to ball.
