This session is a traditional session based on Creating and Finishing Chances. The session will include 3 different practices including a Blocked, Variable and Small Sided Game Practice. The focus of this session is to try and create an opportunity in which it could lead to a goal. Players will need to identify the right pass and shot needed in order to score a goal.
Learning Objectives:
- Shooting Under Pressure
- Combination Play to create an opportunity to score
- Beating a goalkeeper
There is going to be a total of 8-10 players all with a range of ability levels.
I will aim to have a ball rolling time of around 75-80%. Where this is their first time and they are so long, giving them more time to play will help them much more.
Bullseying - I will choose two players to bullseye. I will want them to try and use a range of different shooting techniques in order to score (Chip, Power, Sidefoot)

Variable Practice
In this practice, players will be assessed on their ability to create opportunities for themselves and pick the right option for shot. Due to this being a Variable practice, it will be Semi-Opposed and players will be given less time and space than the session before.
Equipment:
- Rubber Flats
- 4 balls
- 4 mini Goals
- 2 cones
Steps:
1. Behind the goals are semi-opposed defenders.
2. They pass the ball to the attacker who stands roughly 20 yards away from the goals. From this the defender will place light pressure on the ball.
3. When recieving the ball, the attacking players will need to combine past the defender to score into either goal.
4. After a few goes, defenders and attackers will swap
This session will be done in 4 blocks of 1 minutes with a 1 minute intervention time.
Progressions:
- 2v2/3v2
- Bigger distances
Interventions:
Fly By: Act as a decoy to create the angle for striker to shoot
Drive By: Draw the player in before shooting
Conditions:
- 1 touch finish

Blocked Practice
In this practice, players will use a combination of pass and move rotations in order to create an opportunity to score. Due to this being a blocked practice, it will be unopposed and players will be given time and space to take shots and score goals.
Equipment:
- 4 Cones
- 6-8 balls
- 1 Goals
- Cones in corners of goal (Psychological Challenge)
Steps:
1. Have 1 player on each cone on one side.
2. Player at the front of the line passes to the player on the first cone. This player then plays it back to the player.
3. The player who started the move then passes to the person on the second cone. Whilst this process happens, the player on the first cone overlaps the 'playmaker'.
4. The player on the second cone should now have the ball and lay off the overlapper to score.
This session will be done in 2 blocks of 2 minutes with a 1 minute intervention inbetween blocks.
There will be a challenge included in the practice to add to both the social and psychological aspects of the game. This may include a target amount of goals in a time limit. This will depend on the fluidity and success of the drill.
Progressions:
- Swap what side shots are taken from
- Weak foot finish
Interventions:
Fly By: Open your body up to make a finish into the corner easier
Drive By: Hit the shot early to catch the keeper off guard
Conditions:
- Players only allowed 1 touch at a time.
