Overview:
As the ball moves central and the front player (striker) has the ball, our full backs tuck-in to position themselves at the edge of the 18 yard area. Depending on which side the ball is on, the fullback is covering while the other is balancing on the weak side.
Condition 1: Blues front 2 must touch the ball before a goal is scored.
Coaching Points:
Reds must stay compact, with the back 4 narrow inside the lines of the box.
On the ball: Closest defender presses the ball, intercepting as travelling or if space to turn, get close and contain.
Around the ball: Nearest defenders left and right provide cover at angles
Centre mid closest recovers to press the striker. Other midfielder drops back to reduce space.
Away from the ball: The furthest player balances the defence, ensuring no gaps through the middle and cannot be exposed with the long diagonal.
