Focus:
Retain possession of ball whilst trying to move into space.
Aims and objectives:
Players work in pairs, one player has a ball and must try and dribble and protect, whilst trying to move into space. The player without the ball must try and steal it, if he/she steals the ball they must try and keep possession. After 60 seconds the game pauses and the team that has the most balls in possession score a goal for their team. The players must try and keep the ball in the playing area, if they kick it out the other player gets the ball.
Organisation and Setup:
20x 30yard area - marked out with cones or use part of full size penalty area.
4 players in yellow bibs - 4 players in blue bibs.
Play in pairs - pair up a yellow player with a blue player.
1 ball per pair.
Coaching Points:
Keep the ball close and under control.
Which part of the foot to dribble with.
Look to run into space.
Protect the ball - can you shield the ball, but then try a skill to create individual space and move away from the opponent.
Can you dribble past and get in behind your opponent.
Progression:
Add individual challenges - Can you try and perform a skill to get past your opponent
Can you use your left foot
Can you use your right foot
Add 'stop' goals on each line - when coach shouts 'go for goal' can they stop the ball in the goal
Add dribble corners - can they dribble the ball into 1 / 2 / 3/ 4 corners
