Building of the 1st and 2nd defenders. Go into a possesion style game. Red team maintaining the ball, Blue pressuring and covering. Go over the movement of 1st and 2nd defenders. 1st defender pressure, 2nd covers. After a pass 1st and 2nd defenders switch. 2nd defender will become pressure (1st), 1st defender will be come cover (2nd). The goal will be for the defensive team to create a numbers even situation. (25-30min)
When blue wins possession they play back to thier team and red will send in 2 defenders. The process will repeat every loss of possession.
note: if the balls goes out of bounds, coach will lay in a ball to the team that did not lose posession.

Going into a scrimmage. While scrimmage keep focus on the 1st and 2nd defender principles that were taught and worked on the entire practice. At times stop and slow down the play so the players are able to see the posissioning and break down of certain situations.

Warm up (30 mins)
Phase 1: (5-10min)
Start partner passing but take an attacking dribble (3-4 touches) forward then pass. Follow your pass.
Phase 2: (10min)
Work into 1v1. Red player sending the ball to the blue player. After the pass, step up to play defense. Need to focus on defensive stance. One foot forward, one foot back, forcing the player to one side. Red players switch out each possession.
Phase 3: (10-15min)
Add in a second defender. Discuss first defender (pressure), second defender (cover). First defender steps to pressure in thier defensive stance, second defender steps behind and at an angle to cover/support. With a more advanced team you can get into th communication of forcing right and left to lock the attacker into a corner.
