Description: game to help players work as a back four unit and understand basic principles of defending (delay, pressure, cover, balance).
Method: 10x20 grid divided into 4 channels with 3 mini goals on side for attacking team (RED to score and 2 mini goals opposite for defending team (BLUE) to score into. Players on both teams are restricted to their channels. Play starts with coach playing into attacking team who then try to score into one of the 3 goals by either taking defender on 1v1 or combining to score. Defending team press and attempt to win ball back and score in either of the two mini goals (T2A).
Progression:
- Attackers can move one zone over or swap zones (ie; runs in behind)

Description: Two phase game getting back four to react and recover shape.
Method: Half pitch with big goal at one end and two mini goals on half way line. Phase one starts with RED back four playing out the back from GK unopposed and scoring in to either mini goal on half way line (they can play out to a pattern coach prescribes or be free to play how they like. Phase two begins as soon as ball is shot into mini goal and BLUEs start on half way line to attack 4v4 the big goal. Reds must now recover into shape and defend - they can score into the mini goal if they win ball back T2A.

Description: Simple exercise to get players accustomed to pressure on the ball and cover and how to work as a unit..
Method: 15x10 grid with 2 end zones. 6 players - one team function as defenders (BLUE) while other two are attackers (RED and YELLOW). Play starts with coach playing ball to defending team who immediately play into one end zone. Players in end zone then just exchange passes with each other while Blue team has now got into defensive position to press. On coaches command ball is then played into other end zone and we repeat. Change defenders every 90 secs.
