Warm-up: players will be in a diamond shapes like the one above. One ball on the field, player will pass the ball and follow the pass. Player who will receive the ball must drop back to make space between him/her and the cone, must receive with the back foot and move/pass the ball to the next cone. When coach say switch, play switch the direction they are passing.

After couple minutes (2-3 min):

- players must receive the ball diagonally putting first touch forward

- player waiting for the ball will check in, receive a pass and pass back (back to the game), get open diagonally and receive a pass

- if players are good enough, players can try to keep moving the ball with one touch. Body angles and timing will be a massive thing in this game.

Coaching points:

- move the ball on the floor with pace

- make the right angle to receive the ball and progress

- use the back foot

Why they might struggle?

- they are not with the right body angle (needs to be more diagonally to the player with the ball to be able to progress)

- they are not ready to play, body too rigid

- they are not receiving the pass with their back foot

Time:12-15 min

Start playing a 3v1 situation in a small sided grid. 3 players must build up and score in one of the 3 small goals. After the play, a new defender comes and the 3 players receive a new ball. If defender gets the ball, they should try to score in the big goal (make two fields if numbers are big. If you  don't have small goals, use cones for it). After couple plays (5,6) a new defensive trio gets in to build the play. After a time, switch roles (players playing defense becomes the offensive, and vice versa).

You can also setup to fields going at the same time.

Coaching points:

- Support your team mate;

- be ready to receive the ball and to move;

-  don't stay in the same line as the player with the ball, stay in a different angle;

-  if you have space, dribble up;

Progression: Now, we add a new defender and a new offensive player (CM), and we play in a 4v2 situation. Make sure they will start the plays in a shape (diamond). They don't need to stay in the same positions. As the ball move, we want to see them trying to create angles and passing options to their team mates.

*make sure the middle player (CM) can keep being an option for the wide players; make sure players have a good body position to receive the ball and progress or to go back if they need it.

We now will play a gk+6v4. One striker will stay after the line and can't go to the defensive half (depth). The 4 defenders try to get the ball back and score in the big goal. One of the defenders need to stay with the striker.

Team with ball possession, build the play from the back, try to get to the opposite half and score.
Coach can set up the team the way he wants, according to his game formation, but, make sure your team will have width and will have the striker on the top.

Coaching points:

-  make angles (triangles) to build the play;

- restart the ball if you need it;

- be ready to play all the time;

- if you have space, go forward, progress.

Time: 22-25 min

Attack x defense: coach now put players to play in a defense x offense setup. Ball starts with the defensive team, that will try to build the play and score in the small goals. Offensive team try to steal the ball and score in the big goal.

As we worked in today's session about building the play from the defense, defensive team will have a numerical advantage (more players than the opposite team). Doesn't need to be with the same numbers as the draw above, you can adjust on the numbers that you have.

Coaching points:

- move the ball on the floor and with pace

- create passing lines to support your team mates

- try to find a gap and put a through ball

- use the numbers in your favor

Time:15-20 min
