All systems of play have advantages and disadvantages. You may choose to play this formation to suit your available players or because it gives you a tactical advantage. If you elect to play with this shape you need to understand the areas where you are vulnerable and have a strategy to overcome the ensuing problem. The same is true of all systems of play.

What follows is my take on this system, You may have additional roles & responsibilities you want to give but I try to stick to 2 or 3 in possession and 2 or 3 out of possession.

Distribute effectively. Scan forward when you have secured the ball and kick early with pace if it is an advantage to do so. Play short to defenders/midfield if your forwards are matched up.

Be an option when your team is in possession of the ball.

Communicate clearly and early with purposeful instruction.

Out of Possession

Starting position relative to the ball and in line with the ball and your goal.

Be prepared to play as a sweeper/keeper when the defence pushes up.

Shot stopping - ready position, decision whether to catch, punch or parry. React to second chances.
